VITA provides tax assistance Taxpayers can get free help with their basic in come tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax A s s is ta n c e p ro g ra m located at the Mt Hood C o m m u n ity C o lle g e Maywood P ark Center from 9 a m to 5 p m . Fridays through April 9 Sponsored by the Inter nal Revenue Service. VITA is especially designed to provide free assistance to taxpayers who cannot af ford professional tax help, particularly those who file short forms and qualify for the earned income credit. V IT A volunteers also alert those taxpayers and low income elderly, han di capped and non English speaking people to special credits and deductions for which they may be eligible These include child care credit, the tax credit for the elderly and deductions for certain medical and dental expenses.
