Honors secondary for Nippert Although Bob Nippert was a unanimous choice for all-TVL honors, his senior year didn't go as well as he would have liked “ All I wanted to do was get in the playoffs,’’ Nip pert said last week “ 1 guess sometimes it doesn't happen ” His coach. Dan Brisbin, a lth o u g h d is a p po in te d , said, “ I felt we made some gains “ I felt that we showed improvement all the time and played pretty well at times against some pretty tough teams ” It may have been the fo u r o v e rtim e loss at Oregon City that marked when the season took a turn for the worse “ That was an awful tough loss for this team to take.” he said. Brisbin said they d been thinking about that game for some time "Some things went badly at the end. and we lost the game I think that set 'em back for the next one ” Another disappointment, w hich came a fte r the season had ended was when Mitch Paola didn't make the all TVL team Paola, a senior forward, was the seventh leading scorer in the league with a 1 3 - p o in t- p e r - g a me average, “ I felt he did a lot for our ball club,' Brisbin said He added that it would have been tough for Paola to have made the first team, but that he though he would have been on the second team. Smith, of course, was disappointed McCoy didn't receive all-league honors. “She was a very solid player for us this year,” he said “ I t ’s a shame sometimes that they look at points as being the significant fac tor While Cindy's points were adequate, she was one of the top five re- bounders in the league ’ New and McCoy both hit well from the field, which contributed to the fact that this was the best shooting team Smith's had. As for Nippert, Brisbin felt the honor was well- deserved , “ Some teams re a lly played to stop h im ," Brisbin said " He made other people look good He was very unselfish. "He didn't score a lot, but he'd get the hall, and he'd draw three people to him. and then he'd dish it off for an easy basket for somebody else ” Nippert, who scored 15 points and grabbed 10 re bounds a game, said that he is interested in playing college ball Having played post, he knows he’ll have to make the adjustment to playing outside " I prefer forward, to tell you the tru th ,” Nippert said Brisbin said, "He can play out there Colleges like a guy that's physical inside and can rebound for them. “ His defense came along this year. He’ll need to work on that a lot more in college It's a different ball game “ I t 's m uch m o re physical I think he II pro bably adjust to that, and probably like that "He seems to do pretty well when it gets physical in there." N ippert doesn't know what school he'll attend, but plans to m ajor in business, and plans to take some computer classes After that he said that he II probably go to work with his father at U S Metal Works " I work there now and I love doing that So.
