poses the hunting area is divided into the N orth U nit, the west side area and the east side area The N o rth U nit has the fewest regulations It con tains at least eight lakes (v a ry in g w ith the rains and the level of the Colum bia R iv e r ) , and C u nningham Slough m eanders ne arly the u n it's fu ll length, em p tying into M ultom ah Channel The unit is reached by d riv in g to the end of Reeder Road on the C olum bia R ive r side of the island where p a rkin g is a va ila b le The e n tire un it is accessible by w a lkin g or by boat fro m the C o lum b ia R ive r or M ultnom ah Chan nel, H u n tin g is p e r m it t e d seven days a week durin g the w a te rfo w l season w ith no check-in or out required Steel shot is req uire d in the N o r th U n it as it is everyw here on the m anage m ent area, but the only other re g u la tio n are those govern in g w a t e r f o w l h u n t in g elsewhere in the state The west side area con sists of five hu ntin g units in clu din g station is located near the center of the east-side area just off Reeder Road Some hunting units have num bered posts in d ica tin g the spots w h ere hu nters m ust hunt w ith in the unit In others you choose you r own spot The Dak Island unit has established blinds and those w ith reservations check in and out at a self-service sta tin at the entrance to the area A lthough a ll this sounds p re tty com p lica ted in p rin t, the whole system w orks su p risin g ly sm oothly The regulations are designed to provide a kind of hunting op po rtu m ty that w ill suit a w ide v a rie ty of hunters,
