nounced last Friday that he

Telephone Co of the Nor
thwest (GTNW) to increase
its coin telephone rate to 25
cents.
At the same time, Lobdell
said he has been assured by
GTNW that the company w ill
file ta riffs to reduce in ­
trastate long distance rates
charged to the hearing im ­
paired who use keyboard
equipment
GTNW asked that the com
rate increase be allowed
while the company's general
rate increase proposal is be­
ing reviewed by the PUC
staff In June, the company
filed a request for an addi­
tional $24,537,593 in annual
revenues, which included a
proposal to increase coin
phone rates A public hear­
ing on the proposal is ten­
tatively scheduled for Dec 1
in Salem
Lobdell said the 25 cent
coin rate is justified because
at the current rte of 10 cents
a call, coin telephone service
He also said a uniform coin
rate should be established
throughout the state so
customers w ill not m confus
ed by different rates in dif
ferent areas

would serve on local claims

Director Robert B. Ball said
duties of the boards include
hearing requests for exemp­
tion from the draft
Those names, five from
each of 21 geographical
areas in Oregon, took part in
a large scale recruitment ef­
fort. Nearly 300 applications
were screened by nine
reserve m ilita ry officers
making up the Selective Ser­
vice staff Those recommen
dations were submitted by
Ball to the governor for his
nomination
Five from among the 300
applicants w ill be appointed
by Ball to serve on statewide
