POST Thur« O d '> b .r 8 1981 ($ .< 2 Center’s outreach program is for rural women Women who live in rural C lackam as County often have problems taking ad vantage of social services of fe re d by the Women's C e n te r, a non p r o f it organization at Clackamas Community College For that reason, according to Kesource Specialist Sandy D e w a r, the ce n te r has developed an outreach pro gram designed to bring the services closer to ru ra l parts of the county She said she is in the process of selecting volunteers to man centers in S a n d y, E s ta c a d a and Molalla “ There has been some in terest in the Boring area,'' she said “ People in the area are stymied by transporta tion to the center in Oregon resources It is also designed to show men and women how to use existing programs to help them through difficult transitions caused by social and economic changes The center is geared to overcome some of the isola tion felt by women in these a re a s by in c re a s in g awareness of com m unitv ESD seeks jobs, contract work fo r handicapped Clackamas Education Ser vice D istrict <ESI)> needs jobs for up to three oozen moderately to severely men tally retarded students in the ESD work experience pro & am, accof ding t o program specialist Pam McSherry The EM) it also 1 ■ contracts for jobs that can be done in the classrooms by more severely handicapjx-d students, according to Mel Botteron, ESD work ex perience teacher "Ideally we are looking for entry level jobs that aresim pie and highlwrepetitive, the kind of jo b s that often have high employee turnover in com petitive em ploym ent," McSherry said O n c e our students are specially trained to do these jobs they can function as well as any other employee and t»e just as productive,’’ she added “ After they are OCEAN FRESH trained, they tend to stay with these jobs rather than move from jobs to job ’’ In the past, students in the program have worked in laundries and kitchens and have done custodial work or s im p le a s s e m b ly and packaging, she said ESD staff members work with employers and students to be sure the youngsters are trained to do whatever tasks the job requires.
