S»pi 10 190) (Soc I , SANDY (O re ) POST— J inside business Mike’s Bikes offers cyclists variety of services Mike Silenan spent five years in his native Detroit, Mich , learning the ins and outs of bicycle repair in one of that city's largest bicycle shops bia who stopped at the shop, located at the form er site of Cy's Ski Repair, and visited, and a group of Englishmen touring the United States who spent the afternoon But mostly, Silerian is in terested in meeting Sandy residents C u rre n tly , he handles minor tune-ups and repairs to bicycles and shares the expertise of other bike shops when a problem gets sticky He can get parts w ithin a couple days for those patient enough to wait for his ser vices. W ith the approach of w in te r, S ilerian has an nounced new hours He w ill be open from 10 a m to 6 p m. Wednesday through Saturday, but urges cyclists to call him at any tim e if they have a problem or need some repairs His telephone number is 668 8997 Silerian said with the ap proach of w inter, he is also w illing to work at any odd jo b s w h ic h m ig h t be available He now offers his expertise at Mike's Bikes, three miles east of Sandy on Highway 26. the only bicycle shop east of Gresham on the way to Mt Hood. Silerian, 20, discovered the Sandy area on a vacation last year and w ith some of h is frie n d s d e cid e d to relocate His move has been a plus for local cyclists, although they have been slow to discover his shop which opened in May, just before it rained for two solid weeks Silerian, who toured by bicycle in Michigan, said the cyclists in the Mt Hood area have responded to his notices on public bulletin boards quite well, as well as the ride-in trade He's met a “ rustic looking fellow ’’ from B ritish Colum JÏ1 1 Y ' Staff pfwt< Mike Silerian offers tune-ups and repairs to all types of bicycles at Mike's Bikes. At Christmas, he hopes to introduce a line of new bikes at the shop, including "cruisers“ with sturdy frames and balloon tires. Post honored for excellence The Sandy Post has won a f ir s t h o n o ra b le m e n tio n a w a rd in a n a tio n a l newspaper evaluation con test for overall general ex cellence. The contest, conducted by N ew spaper E d it o r ia l W o rk s h o p S e rv ic e s o f F lo rid a , scored comm unity newspapers on six judging catagories w ith special em phasis on news coverage, editorial page and public service. The Post scored what amounts to fourth place na tionally in overall general excellence with 58 earned points Hinsdale Doings in Illinois won the division with 72 points, while Post sister paper Cottage Grove Sen tinel placed second with 65 points Third place went to O rch a rd P a rk Suburban Press in New York w ith 60 points The Post competed with newspapers nearly twice as large in the judging The Righteousness of Christ Certificates were awarded to the top six newspapers in the contest Ten newspapers competed in the division Points were awarded for high number of local stories and local editorials that take stands This marks the tenth year of the national contest N ew spaper E d it o r ia l W o rk s h o p S e rv ic e s o f Florida is an editorial and typographical consultant to newspapers MYbitKlfcS AND MARVELS OF GOD. The course, sponsored by the Four Seasons Motorcycle Rider School, w ill take place from 9 a m to 4 p m. both days..
