The state produced 5.8 billion board feet of softwood lumber valued at $1 6 billion Along with the 20 9 percent production drop, the value decreased $610 m illion I n a c t iv it y in hom e building, western lumber's largest market, was blamed for the significant decline in Oregon lumber production, according to the Western Wood Products Association. Employment in Oregon's wood products industry (ex cluding furniture manufac turing) dropped by 12,(MM) jobs in 1980 to 69,200 reporting and area news coverage He holds a degree in jo u r nalism from the U niversity of Kansas. He grew up in Kansas and worked for the Pratt Tribune in P ratt, Kan sas, where he was sports editor The Kansas newspaper won second place in its d iv i sion in statewide competi tion for sports reporting under his direction Sandy Post news editor Dan Dillon, meanwhile, has been appointed editor with overall responsibility for the newspaper's news product. He replaces Mark Floyd, a 1977 Oregon State U niversity graduate who resigned from The Post after three years to become new OSU assistant director of sports informa tion. Geren will operate the store, renamed Geren's Farm Supply, with wife Kathy. He also plans to continue teaching at Sandy High School, where he is advisor of the student Future Farmers of America Club.
