Local readers aid search fo r MS causes and cure Results were announced this week for three area school districts in the Na tional M ultiple Sclerosis READ-a-tbon In the Sandy Elementary School District, more than 30 children have returned their material to date These par ticipants read 410 boolu and have contributed $391 io to held find the cause and a cure for multiple sclerosis In the Boring School District, 32 children reported reading 640 books and con tributed $637 09 toward the goal of finding a cure for the crippling disease I he Orient School District had more than 600 children participate in the READ a thon These participants read 1.3H7 books and con tributed $2.295 20 to held fin ding the causes and a cure for MS Guidelines for the MS READ-a-thon are simple School children volunteer to read books and seek spon sors who pledge a quarter, half dollar or more for each book read during a defined reading period The MS READ-a-thon was originated and developed by the N a tio n a l M u ltip le Sclerosis Society for its more than 150 chapters and bran ches throughout the United States It has gained the ac ceptance of the International Reading Association. July 31. at 10:3Ua m on a proposed hydro-electric project for Boulder Creek near Bright wood The Water Policy Review Board of the Oregon Water Resources Department will hold the public hearing at the Sandy Community Center, 38348 Pioneer Blvd Steven Sweitzer, plans to utilize 60 cubic feet per second of water from Boulder Creek for hydroelectric power Boulder Creek is a tributary of the Salmon River.
