H SANDY (O r« ) ROST Thur» July 9 i 9 8 1 (S«< I) Hunting pamphlets available Regulations set for deer and elk Printed regulations and controlled,hunt application cards for 1981 deer and elk seasons are now available at license agencies throughout Oregon. There have been a number of changes in procedure this year and hunters are en couraged to pick up a copy of the regulations as soon as possible Instructions should be read carefully before a p plying for any controlled hunts been a source of problems in the past The application card itself w ill be different Instead of spaces for two hunters to apply as a party, the new card has spaces for I h is y e a r it is not necessary to purchase a deer OREGON One change this year is that the $1 application fee does not need to be submit led to the Department of h ish and U ild life with a con trolled hunt application In stead, the fee w ill be paid to the license agent when the application card is obtained Beginning this year, all ap plicants for a controlled hunt w ill re ce ive n o tific a tio n whether they are successful or not In the past, only suc ce ssfu l a p p lic a n ts were notified Hunters who are applying for a perm it hunt are asked to wait u ntil after they receive notification of suc cess or failure before they Black powder shoot The Barlow T ra il laing Rifles w ill hold a Black Powder Shoot as part of the an n u a l Sandy M o u n ta in Festival. The shoot w ill be July 11 12 on the Cedar Ridge athletic field The first events w ill begin at 10:15 a m The competition w ill in elude a feather cut, bobcat shoot, axe and clay pigeons, card split, Hawkens shoot and quick load shoot A number of special events Permits w ill be sent to all individuals who are sue cessful in the controlled hunt drawing or in their bid for a lim ited entry tag In another new procedure, the hunter w ill then take his perm it to a local license agent and pur chase the necesssry tag across the counter He must have both the perm it and the lag in possession when p a r ticipating in the controlled or lim ited entry hunt This new procedure again eliminates the past practice of sending p e rm it fees through the mail or elk tag prio r to applica tion for one of the controlled or lim ite d e n try hunts T h is e lim in a te s the necessity for sending cash through the mail which has buy a general season deer or elk tag The tags w ill not go on sale until July 2o are scheduled, including a cannon shoot, rifle raffle, keg throw, costume contest and axe throw Prizes w ill be awarded, in eluding a rifle , trophies and pistols R e g is tr a tio n m a y be handled by m ail or from h a m to noon the day of the shoot For more inform ation, call Walt, 668-5651.
