sion, the library is exhibiting
the works of four area artists
and pieces from the collec
tions of others
Maxine Taylor of Cher
ryville arranged the exhibit
She is a former teacher of
the art and a member of the
International Porcelain Art
Teachers, Inc She has
painted porcelain for nearly
10 years and outlined the
process of putting the colors
to the hard porcelain
The finest hard porcelain.
Porcelain was first made
in its prim itive form in China
during the Tang dynasty
from 618 to 907 A I)

porcelain was popularized in
the 1800s and moved to the
United States from Europe
During World War I the art
dipped in jxipularity But
now, 60 years later, it is
making a comeback and

France Most of the paints
used are mineral paints
The paints are applied to
the porcelain and fired in a
kiln to 1323 degrees which
sinks the paint into the glaze
If desired, gold is then put
on the piece That is. in turn
fired to 1112 degrees in the
k iln
U nlike the paint,
however, the gold sets on top
of the glaze and doesn't sink
That means as pieces w ith
gold grow older and are
handled for a period of time.
