THurv, July 2. 1981 ($•< 4) SANDY (O r * ) POST— 19 Hilly course challenges ‘Frontiersmen’ ready for shoot festival fun runners For the th ird consecutive year, the Sandy Mountain Festival w ill host the Almost 10-Kilometer Run Sponsored by Camera Con nection of Sandy, the run this year is designed to entice a record number of entries An entry fee of just $3 has been set for the run, which w ill follow a h illy five-m ile course south of Sandy Five m iles is n 't q u ite 10,000 meters, but the race is Almost 10-Kilometers, after all. The hills should more than make up for the missing mile or so. The race w ill begin at 9 a m Saturday, July 11 at Camera Connection. Par- ticipants w ill run to Langen- sand Road, then down to Trubel, Bornstedt, Highway 211, D u b a rk o , M e im g , B a rk e r, G a ry , back to Langensand, M cC o rm ick and Wolf Drive, back to Camera Connection. Last ye a r’s winner was Sid Christie of Gresham Trophies w ill be awarded for the top two finishers for men, women and runners under 14 Water w ill be available for runners sometime near the halfway point of the race P e rs o n s w is h in g .to register for the run should call Camera Connection at 668-7472 as soon as possible. lh e days of the old frontiersmen w ill be relived July 11-12 when the Sandy Mountain Festival will present the Black Powder Shoot Sponsored by the Barlow Trail Long Rifles, the shoot will feature old time muzzleloaders and a variety of events Contestants w ill vie in the feather cut, bobcat shoot, axe and clay pigeon shooting, card split. Haw kens shoot and quick load shoot in competition for overall w inner There will also be special events, such as a can non shoot, rifle raffle, pistol and revolver competi tion, a keg throw, costume contests and an axe throw The costume contest will feature both m ilitary and non m ilitary outfits Registration for the shoot will take place beginn ing .it 8 a ni each day at the site ot the contest, the ( edar Ridge athletic field Registration may also be handled by mail prior to the event Competition will begin a, 10 15 a in each day A number of prizes will lx» offered, included a rifle for first place overall winner Trophies and pistols will also be awarded Overnight facilities are available for persons traveling long distances A number of rules have been set to insure the safe ty of the participants They are: \ o polypatches; no unexposed ignitions, open iron sights only, cap only on the firing line, load on ly in designated area, flintlocks load only on the f ir ing line, revolvers must leave one empty chamber, no loading directly from flask or horn, any clearing of rifle or pistol must be done on the firing line, smoking m designated areas only; no alcoholic beverages, all cannons will be checked for safety; muzzleloaders only in all events Connie Case of Mt. Hood Community College (far right) won the women's division of the Almost 10-Kilometer Run. The overall champion was Sid Christie of Gresham (right).
