Thur* . July 2. 1981 (S*< 4> SANDY (O f* ) POST— 7 Frontiers and fantasies theme o f 1981 parade The king of the wild fron tier won't be at the Sandy Festival Parade. July 9. but the king of Walt Disney music will be George Bruns, Sandy resi dent and composer of many Walt Disney musicals in cluding "Davy Crockett , the score from "Babes in Toyland" and “ Love", from Robin Hood, will be grand marshall of the parade The appropriate theme is ‘From frontier land to fantasy land". Bruns will ride on woodsy float and be escorted by the Barlow Trail Long Rifles who will be playing “Davy Crockett" Bruns was the musical coordinator for Disney Pro ductions for over 20 years and now works as a free lance composer, arranger and conductor The parade, with 25 new entries is much bigger than last year's, according to parade director. Shannon Ellis who works at the Backlot beauty shop in San dy The parade route will be the same as last year's The 91 entries will assemble at the intersection of Sunset S treet and U niversity Avenue and proceed up Pioneer The parade will disassemble at McCormick Drive One of the new entries is the Oregon National Guard Reserve Pipe Band, who played in President Ronald Reagan's inaugration Also new to the parade will be the Portland Royal Rosarians who played in the Portland Rose Festival and Wishful Winter, a walking color guard The five generation court will again be a highlight in the parade The family tree starts with Queen Florence Schmitz, who is in her 70s and ends with eight year old princess Erin Fenwick Other princesses in order are Helen Lampke, Jan Fox and Patsy Wesselink Six bands will sound off. including the Al Kader Shriners Drum and Bugle Corp, Sandy Lion's Club, Fun with Music, Sandy Silvertones, Cottrell-Bull Run Summer Band and the Sandy High School Jazz Band.
