Lego toys and a young
boy’s imagination may aid a
company in solving a pro
blem.
The c le v e r m ind of
13-year-old Marty Fadness
of B o rin g cre a te d a
mechanical device which a
Minnesota construction com
pany plans to patent.
Rights to Marty's inven
tion were turned over to the
large corporation And since
the processing of the patent
is taking place, details must
remain confidential until
everything is signed, sealed
and delivered
It all began when M arty’s
father, Quinton Fadness,
was in Minnesota on a
business trip He talked to a
corporate official about his
son's creation, which he
made from Legos. At the
time, the firm was con
fronted with a mechanical
problem which could be solv
ed by M arty’s concept, ac
cording to Fadness
"M a rty ’s device displays a
unique q ua lity," Fadness
said, adding that the com
pany should benefit from the
invention. The company
plans to make a working
model from the toy for study
Marty Fadness has long
been

by
mechanics. For several
years he pieced together
cars, trucks, tanks, trailers
and tractors, using Lego toys
collected from friends and
family as gifts.
When asked how much
time he devotes to his crea
tions, he turned to his
mother and asked, "How
many times have you asked
me to do something when I
was working on my Legos9"
The tim e was co n
siderable.
M arty’s fascination with
mechanical things began as
a young boy. His father said
