Thur» March 26 1981 Sx I) SANDY [O ra ) POST —3 Sandy High offers MHCC night extension classes this spring Sandy Union High School is one of eight schools in the Mount Hood Community Col lege education district that w ill offer MHCC courses in the evenings during spring term beginning Monday, March 30 Most of the courses are college-credit classes rang ing from accounting and karate to pottery and wood working while the rest are special non-credit classes, according to Margaret Grat ton. MHCC associate dean of community education. “ Each school has a coor d in a to r to help p la n, schedule and publicize the college classes at their schools,“ Gratton said According to Sandy coor dinator Carolyn Yandell, SUHS w ill offer classes in six different areas arts and crafts; basic skills; business e d u c a tio n ; h e a lth and physical education, land scaping, and photography. Pottery classes w ill be held Tuesdays from 7 to 10 p m. at the high school art room Woodworking class will meet each Monday from 7 to 10 p m the high school shop ABEG ED classes w ill meet Monday and W'ednes day from 6:30 to 9 30 p m at Cedar Kidge School. The classes are designed to meet the requirements for the pur pose of receiving a high school equivalency c e r tificate, to upgrade basic s k ills or fo r s e lf- improvement Three levels of bookeep- ing accounting classes will be offered each Wednesday from 7 to 10 p m at room 65 at the high school All the preceding classes carry two hours of college credit The physical educa tion classes will carry one college-credit hour They are three levels of karate, meeting each Tuesday from 7-10 p m at the Sandy («rade School gym Modern jazz exercise will meet each Wednesday from 7 to 10 p m at the high school gym *C*. One way fo r fo rm e r students to accomplish their return to education begins next Monday, March 30, at 6:30 pm at Cedar Ridge School in room 13. The spring term of classes to prepare students for the General Education Develop ment (GED) w ill meet each Monday and Wednesday evening The class, however, features open enrollment for persons unable to attend the opening session That means students will be able to join the class at any time, accor ding to its teacher, Eileen Houser. Sandy had 26 enrollees for the winter term, according to Houser, and five suc cessfully completed their tests All those who suc cessfully complete the tests are eligible to take part in the GED g ra d u a tio n ceremony June 4 on the Mount H»x»d Community Col lege campus. The van w ill depart the center at 5:30 p m. to allow for a pre theatre meal. Following this Tuesday's Loaves and Fishes meal, the center’s band, the Sandy Silver Tones, w ill offer several selections in honor of those born in March. A group of the Sandy Senior Center’s most loyal volunteers w ill be busy at the c e n te r Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 1 to 4 p m preparing for the annual Spring Bazaar Help ing hands w ill be welcomed. Next Thursday, April 2, the center w ill host the Clackamas County Senior Law Project.
