Thun Police organizing city 1 with volunteer program > i I The crime rate is sneaking higher and higher in small towns like Sandy and local officials are concerned. To assist local residents and help them protect their belongings, the Sandy Police Department is implemen ting a community education program to begin prevention measures at home According to Police Chief I- red Punzel, the program will use police officers and volunteers Volunteers, he said, are still desparately needed The program will focus on home security and point out the use of locks, fences and other preventive measures to slow down, if not eliminate burglars “ The thing that's bothering us most in the residential burglaries is that the access to houses is super- simple,” Punzel said recent ly. With the volunteer pro gram, the police department will be able to point out how burglars are getting into local homes.
