-SANDY (Ore ) POST Thurs., Jan 29, 1981 (Sec 2) Classified deadline is noon Monday Use the ceiling as a bulletin board Extra space is where you find it Every now and then 1 like to surprise my fam ily by doing something out of the ordinary This week 1 dec ided to put the dishes that normally float between the dish washer and the table back in the cupboard I was shocked to find there was no room for them. Had it been that long since they were last put away9 1 pushed the cannisters, jars, and appliances on the counter aside making room for the armload of dishes and wondered what happened to my spacious kitchen. TTus overcrowding cancer had spread to every room in the* house and 1 had completely ignored the warning signals Tax papers, coloring books, lib ra ry books and the typewriter engulfed the dining room table totally eclipsing the table's surface and choking off a bouquet of wilted flowers. The table had become a holding pond for the desk’s run off. _ x . I once was concerned that the desk s top would be marred by heavy pencil marks and should be protected bv a pad One had evolved over the months due to an abundance of notes, bills, returned checks and unan swered letters The drawers had been taken over by the girls' school supplies and the husband s business papers. The telephone that once seemed rooted to the desk's back comer had been transplanted to the front room floor . , , It wasn’t necessary to dust the desk, in fact it was impossible The bathroom was no better The tub had been lined by the girls with a six-inch layer of plastic bottles, cups, and toys all half fu ll of cold water The counter top was VALUABLE COUPON WESTERN FAMILY YOGURT ASSORTED FLAVORS 3 98 TW -1 cluttered with an assortment of shampoos, rinses, hand soaps, and degreasers The drawers looked like a mini drug section starting at the top with brushes, combs anil curlers and working down through toiletries and vitamins. ^WciAgoAet Sefcmaíe s ^itS and pieces The living space was getting crowded. It was either time to construct a 810,000 addition or throw something away. The alternative, of course, was to find unused space. But where? The more thought I gave the problem the more space I found. Every house has space it does not utilize. Rie ceiling, for example, hangs around completely blank except for a light and an occasional spider What a magnificient bulletin board it would make Photos could be displayed on ceilings elim inating the need for books. Children’s rooms could have posters plastered across them ami the fam ily room could be overcast w ith maps and charts showing the vacation routes and weather fronts. The water bed could be a source of extra income, if the manufacturers just made the opening a little bigger I t ’s heated waters would make an ideal spawning ground for tropical fish It could be the answer to the w orld’s foot! shortage; every home could have it ’s own kelp or oystei bed. Catfish ami other edible bottomfish could survive in slightly cooler temperatures. The tank on the back of the toilet could be put to better use than storing bricks A planter placed over the tank would autom atically be watered Slips could be rooted for those w ith green houses. Pets could be watered while owners were away at work or on a trip Pounds and pounds of d irt go to waste in house plants flower pots E arth worms could be thriving in and around the roots of every African violet providing the household with a source of protein or, at least, something to catch the catfish with The roof is the lim it! Refrigerators have been bulletin boards for years cluttered w ith magnets and toys. Now i t ’s time to spread out, up and over the rest of the house. 1 feel so much better since I ’ve found all this extra space. So why is it 1 still can’t find a spot for my toaster9 VALUABLE COUPON WESTERN FAMILY.
