The Sandy Senior Center w ill again sponsor its Tax Assistance Program fo r Seniors w ith a Jan. 28 kicko ff date. Chalmers Thornber w ill offer help each Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. to 12 noon to area senior citizens until the A p ril 15 filin g date. He w ill offer free assistance fillin g out the necessary forms to take advantage of the renter’s assistance program Feline facts or fables? Help is available in Portland every weekday, except holidays, at the Federal Building, 1220 S.W. Third, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In Oregon City, tax in form ation can be obtained at 501 Pleasant Ave. on Mondays and Tuesdays, except when Monday is a holiday. Hours are the same, but the office is closed between noon and 1 p.m. fo r lunch. Newspaper advertisements more often than not lead to blind alleys. And when you land a job, where do you go from there? A class that "begins next Monday may ease your fears about going out into the com petitive job m arket place. Called sim ply ‘ ‘Finding Yourself A Job,” the class is sponsored by the Mount Hood Community College Office of Community Education in cooperation w ith the Sandy Elem entary School D istrict. According to class leader A rty Trost, the four-week session w ill help area residents effectively prepare themselves for getting a job and w ill offer tips about what to do the firs t day on the job. Cost of the course is $15. It w ill be held four consecutive Mondays, beginning Jan. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the lib ra ry at Cedar Ridge School and registration is available at the door. However, Trost said she would like an idea of the number of possible registrants. To place your name on the list, call Sandy Community School, 668-5744. The focus of the class w ill be to make its participants comfortable w ith marketing themselves when they enter the job-hunting world, Trost said. Trost said she w ill explore work opportunities and discuss where you go looking in the "hidden job m arket” beyond the classified ads and unemployment offices. She w ill talk about w ritin g an effective resume, prepare the participants for job in terviews and explain how to use follow-ups to those in terviews w ith prospective employers. F in a lly, the class w ill cover preparation for the firs t day on the new job and continuining factors for success. Trost, a Sandy resident, is a management consultant who travels throughout the country helping groups become more effective in career training and more effective on the job. She said the class w ill be very participative. No college credit w ill be available.
