Tuna casserole

Tuna casserole
1 can white tuna
1 can Mushroom soup 4- 4 can water
1 can water chesnuts, sliced
1 cup chopped celery
12 cup mayonaise
1» cup grated cheese
2 Tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 can asparagus tips, drained and chopped
1 )ash of Soy Sauce
1 reg. can Chow Mein Noodles
Small pkg. slivered almonds
Mix a ll ingredients together. Place in buttered
casserole; sprinkle slivered almonds on top. Bake at 350
degrees for 30 minutes. Note. The day before needed you
may m ix all except Chow Mein Noodles and refrigerate
Then just before cooking, s tir in noodles and sprinkle
slivered almonds on top (if desired). Serves 4-6. —From

Tangy fruit salad
1 cup dates, chopped fine
1 pkg. lemon gelatin (3 oz.)
1 cup boiling water
1 111 oz.) can Mandarin oranges (drained), reserve juice
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
1 small can crushed pineapple i drained), reserve juice
1 j cup Cheddar cheese, cut in cubes
H cup toasted slivered almonds
Dissolve gelatin in boiling water Drain syrup from
oranges and pineapple, add lemon juice and water to
make one cup liquid. Stir into gelatin m ixture Chill until
gelatin mounds on spoon. S tir in almonds. Pour into in
dividual molds, or one salad mold. Chill until firm . Serves

Recently I had a request to reprint a recipe which I
received in 1964 from Rita Oldenkamp who lived here at
that time. It is by far the best date bread I have ever
eaten. It can be served in a square as cake topped with
whipped cream, ice cream o r topping, or sliced as bread
w ith butter «r softened cream cheese spread on it.
1 * cup dates (Chopped)
1 cup boiling water
Combine the dates and boiling water When cool add one
cup brown sugar, one Tablespoon butter, one beaten egg, 1
teaspoon vanilla, 1 and two-thirds cups flour, one teaspoon
soda. 4 cup nuts ( optional). Pour into a greased loaf pan.
Bake in a slow ow n, 325 degrees, for about an hour. —

1 j to 1 cup chopped nuts.
Mix the dry cake m ix, eggs, apple sauce and nuts well
and put into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at
350 degrees for about 25-30 minutes. The apple sauce

10th in the country to earn
a c c re d ita tio n ,

based on reviews of the

facilities by both education

leaders plus perform ance
reviews of graduates from
the program.

been graduated from the
OSU program since it was
established in 1967 with the
cooperation of the Oregon-

tractors, Burgess reported.
“ Most graduates have three
or four job offers from which
to pick,” he added. "The
demand for graduates fa r
exceeds the supply.” The
average starting salary for
June 1980 graduates was
$1.650 a month or $19,800 a
year.

major source of electricity

vides over 20% of Oregon s electricity
For four years, the Trojan plant has
supplied safe energy needed to m ain
tain Oregon s economy
But Ballot Measure t i l would
dan Oregon s option to use more
nuclear pow er— no matter how great
our need for it — until at least the
21st century
Even though its misleading
language does not mention banning
nuclear power, Measure # 7 effectively
will cut off O regon’s ability to even plan
for more nuclear power. It will take the
federal government at least until the
1990s to meet # 7 s tricky requirements
— ones that will do nothing to make
nuclear power any safer than it is right
now. It make no sense to ban any
energy option at a time when energy
shortages threaten to occur in the years
ahead As the National Academy of
Sciences recently concluded. There is
no way for Am erica to m eet its energy
requirem ents in the next tw enty years
without co a l and nuclear p o w e r
And the vast majority of O re
gon s scientists agree: this is no time to
ban the option for additional nuclear
pow er— particularly when we already
depend upon it for much of our state s
electricity V o te to k e e p th e
n u c le a r o p tio n .
