R ecent s c ie n t if ic d is c o v e r ie s c o n fir m statements in the Bible concerning heavenly bodies. Clendenon points out. "The Bible is a very scientific book," he says. "Centuries ago the Book of Job recorded that Arcturus is a fast or running star, and it took us until the 20th century to discover this." Clendenon uses the Psalms to show how "modern” the Psalmist is in his knowledge of the planets and the solar system. "In Psalm 19 David hints at the fact that the sun travels in a circuit which appears to be a straight line," he said. " I t has only been in the last century that scientists have discovered that the sun travels in an orbit so ex tensive that it is believed to be a straight line." He will also discuss the differences between the science of astronomy and astrology. Most of the slides Clen denon w ill use in his lectures were obtained through the help of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and the National Aeronautics and Space administration.
