Highway 211 about three
miles out of Sandy in the
early evening on June 12
“ I slightly rernemlier an
arm swinging out of a car,”
said Neva

windshield of his Dpal station

Neva said as he bung onto bis
steering wheel and slammed
on the brakes His none had
been shattered by the blow

"The only reason it didn't

square,” he added, pointing
to his forehead
Neva's friend drove him to
the Sandy Fire Station and he
then spent the next two days
at Gresham Com m unity

sick man at Jim's Big Apple

transported to tlx- hospital
when i, was discovered he
was a diabetic suffering
insulin shock as the result of
tx-ing intoxicated

week that Clare I. Koznek.

practice medical clinic in the
new Homestead Building,
located a, the intersection of
P roctor Boulevard and
Strauss Avenue in downtown
Sandy in July The building
was remodeled extensively
to
accommodate
two
physicians
Thr* two men are 1976
graduates o( the Kansas City
College
of Osteopathic
Medicine
Dr
Koznek
completed
his medical
internship at Lakeside
H ospital, Kansas City,
M issouri, and Dr
Lee
completed his at Doctor s
Hospital. Columbus, Ohio,
both in 1977
Both Dr Lee and Dr
Koznek entered the National
Health Service Corps in July,
1977 Within H m * span oí eight
months, they established
family practice centers at
Winchester and Oskaloosa,
Kansas, in an area where
there was a shortage of
physicians They also helped
recruit two new physicians
for a neighboring community
and
assisted
in
the
development oí their new
practice They served on the
medical staffs of Jefferson
County Memorial Hospital
and Lawrence Memorial
Hospital and attended two
nursing homes to provide
physician services
Both were active in public
education programs, giving
lectures at local school*
and fo r local service
organizations as well as
regional heulth system
agencies (USAs) To help
ensure the continuity of the
area wide practice they
initiated. Doctors Koznek
and I.ce helped to recruit the
physicians
who
are
scheduled to replace them in
the National Health Services
Corps program in Kansas
The two physicians ttolh
have an interest in living in
or near Sandy Both have
applied for privileges on the
medical staff of Portland
Adventist Medical Center
and Gresham M em orial
Hospital
Dr Koznek is returning to
his home state He grew up in
a rural area near The Dalles
and received a bachelor
arts degree in biology at
Portland Slate University in
1971 Hobbies and interests
include sa iling , hiking,
photography, and farming,
and he is looking for u small
farm near Sandy
Dr I<ee grew up in Sioux
Kails, South Dakota, and
Topeka. Kansas His hobbies
and interests are hiking,
music,
photography and
sailing He and his wife,
Emma, are looking for a
home in or near town
