He played the trumpet in school and later picked up the guitar. As a hobby he collected so many in struments in his home that friends encouraged him to open his own music store. Kirkwood still works for Reynolds A lum inum and rotates shop duty with his wife and mother. Wife Lori Kirkwood plays the piano, organ and guitar. Alpine Music specializes in g u ita rs and carries everything in straps, pics and strings The shop also carries sheet music, harmonicas, drums and band instruments in cluding trum pets, trum - bones, saxaphones, clarinets and flutes. Repairs are offered on nearly all instruments. In a ddition to g u ita r lessons, the shop plans soon to offer lessons on trumpet and bass guitar. The store offers guitar rentals to students. Fair to include two horse shows Two separate horse shows and an all-Indian rodeo w ill be part of the 1978 Greater Multnomah County F air at the Expo Center July 28- August6. The big Expo Center arena w ill be devoted to the “ horsy" set the first five days of the fa ir and to the first Portland All Indian rodeo the last three days, Aug 4,5 and 6. New along with the rodeo is an open one-day horse show with Oregon Horsemen’s Association approval for entries of all ages The open event w ill be Sunday, July 30. For two days on either side of it, the Multnomah coutny 4-H horseclubs w ill present their county fa ir show, involving some 250 young people and their mounts. The rodeo, jointly sp- nonsored by the Portland Intertribal Council and the Willamette Valley Rodeo Association, is expected to attract Indian rodeo top hands from all over the western U S. and Canada. Rangers to hold Show-me program An informal “ show-me" program w ill be presented by the Forest Service on the Clackamas Planning Unit at Estacada High School at 7:30 p m ., July 19 and Santiam High School at 7:30 p.m., July 26, according to Joel Dahlin, Estacada District ranger, Mt. Hood National Forest. The purpose of the show me program is to review the inventory and s u ita b ility analyses for a number of resources including timber and geothermal. "This is another phase of the land management process on the 350,000 acre Clackamas Planning Unit begun in 1976,” said Dahlin. “ We’re looking for feedback from the public on the ap proach taken thus fa r,’’ he added. The Clackamas Planning Unit lies within the southern portion of the Mt. Hood National Forest and the northern portion of the Willamette National Forest. Within its boundaries are the Bull of the Woods and Olallie Roadless (RARE II) areas. Muffins and Ma’s casserole BY SARA SEWELL BREAKFAST MUFFINS 1 cup buttermilk 1 cup oatmeal 1 egg. unbeaten 1 j cup dark brown sugar *4 cup oil or melted shorter,ing 1 cup flour 4 teaspoon salt 112 teaspoon bak ing powder *2 teaspoon soda Pour buttermilk over oatmeal and let stand. Com bine egg and sugar and mix well, then add oil. Sift together all remaining dry ingredients. Add buttermilk m ixture and egg m ixture to dry ingredients. Mix well. Pour into greased muffin tins or use baking cups Bake at 400 degrees for 18-20 minutes. Makes 1 dozen delicious muffins From the files of Mrs. Earl (Frances) Cherry, Portland, Oregon If you like a hot fruited muffin, you might add 4 cup chopped dates. MOM’S CASSEROLE 2 lbs. hamburger (or 1 lb hamburger and l lb. ground pork) 1 medium onion 2 stalks celery, chopped 1 green pepper, chopped 14 cups stuffed olives, drained 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 can cream of chicken soup (Dilute soups a little with m ilk) 1 to 1 and a third cups uncooked minute rice cooked according to pkg. directions 1 large can Chinese noodles 1 (7 oz.) ja r of cashew nuts Brown meat until it loses its redness Remove from heavy skillet. Then saute vegetables Return meat to pa n. add soups diluted with a little milk, and the cooked rice. Simmer in heavy pan or crock pot for 2 hours.
