Gretchen. 23. is a senior at the University and hails from the Eastern Oregon community of Moro. Her summer work includes organizing activities for a children's festival planned for Aug 20 and developing a day camp for the mentally retarded adults. Gretchen is also superv ising the Sandy Senior Center Summer Service Handyman Project, a home and y an Dolls program, a recreation program for nursing home patients " I even umpire for men's slow pitch when 1 m needed, she said and laughed To prepare for the children s festival. Gretchen is asking area merchants for donations of door prizes and gift cer tificates The festival will be geared for children ages 5-14 and will include activities such as games, story telling, possibly a magic show and pudding and face painting The festival will be held at Meinig Memorial Park in Sandy "Because we've never had this before it will be hard to tell what the participation will be." Gretchen told The Post. Gretchen said plans for the day cam p fo r m entally retarded citizens are not yet finalized. The summer recreation staff member said she enjoys tennis, softball, bowling and hiking She added that she has found Sandy to be a friendly com munity. Wednesday evening. Aug 17.
