critical stage
The proposed M t Hood Corridor sewage
project is reaching a critical stage a * the
Department of Environmental Quality
(D E Q ) reviews applications for federal
funding by various public works depart
ment*. said Dave Abraham of the
Clackamas County Utilities Department.
As the DEQ examines various ap
plication*. they rate them according to
DEQ priority. Those with the highest
ratings receive funds first, he explained.
In a preliminary rating, Abraham ad
mitted that the lloodland project "is not a
sure thing I would’ve preferred to see it

A p ril25 meeting include:
1) Use of an existing Tim berline Rim
sewage treatm ent plant in that area and
the addition of a plant in Wemme to serve
the Wemme-Welches area.
2) Use of the Tim berline Rim plant for
both the Rim and W em m e Welches area
until that plant is at full capacity, at which
tim e it would be shut down and a new plant
award.
All art work to be entered in
the exhibit should be mounted,
labeled and submitted to the
A rt M a ll G allery office by July

built in Wemme to serve both areas
3) Uae of the Timberline Rim plant to it*
current maxim um capacity, followed by
its expansion to meet the future needs of
both the Tim berline Rim and Wemme-
tie presented,
Abraliam also said he had heard the
DEQ deliberately "weights" the priority
list* uhead of time so as to assure adequate
Welches area
4) A single plant for the entire area built
at W emme with a capacity of a quarter
million gallons per day, to be expanded as
federal funding
"The final allotment is spread over as
many projects a * possible.
Abraham
said "Those project* that aren’t ready to
future needs dictate.
The exact nature of the final plan being
drafted by the county has not yet been
announced.
Under federal law, up to 75 per cent of
the coat of any of the projects could be paid
for by a grant from the Environmental
Protection Agency,
from page one
lifts and the sixth under construction,
allowing a capacity of 9.800 visitors and
9.250 skiers One of the new lifts would
serve the White River area, which is now
outside the Meadow* permit area
F> The last alternative is the "fu ll speed
ahead" plan, representing full develop
ment of the Meadows area to accomodate
12,000 visitors. 11,350 skiers and 3.800
overnight guests The lloodland Chamber
of Commerce supports this plan
M t Hood Meadow* manager Clay Simon
submitted a 32 page statement to the
Forest Service last week in which he urged
approval of a combination of alternatives
EandF
"The demand for ski space already
exceeds the supply on Mt. Hood," Simon
said. "The only way to make the best use
of the available ski area is to encourage
skiing during the week This requires a
variety of lodgings,”
Although the cut-off date for public input
was originally set for Monday, Heisler said
that as long as they are working on the
input summary they w ill accept additional
