July 4th plans jell for Hoodland area by Jean Stein 622 3425 JOHN P IT M A N , the new manager of the Barlow Inn at Zigiag, with his wife Linda Changes set fo r Barlow Inn W ith an eye tow ards revamping the menu and at tracting name entertainment, John Fitm an has taken over the managerial position at the Barlow Inn at Zigzag F itm a n comes to the m ountain c o rrid o r from California's San Francisco Bay area, where he lived for 25 years, teaching school and managing several bars Fitm an says his main goal far the Barlow Inn is to “ have a good menu at a reasonable price with excellent service." He plans to incorporate Italian and seafood dishes into the Inn's menu, which is now prim arily centered around steaks A deck is planned for outdoor dining, and service decor, tablecloths and even the waitress's outfits will all be coordinated, with the idea that “The help w ill blend into the walls but still be right there." To capitilize on the rustic decor of the Inn. Fitm an says he w ill have the fireplace going year round during the break fast and dinner hours The Barlow Inn already features re g u la r liv e en tertainment. but Fitm an hopes . .Fourth of July weekend will be a big one on the m ountain. . . a real three ring circus of events Lion's Club members will be serving their annual Chuck Wagon breakfast at their hall in Wemme Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3. It's always a delicious all you can eat breakfast of sausage or bacon, eggs, pancakes, juice and coffee They w ill have a turkey shoot, m iniature golf. Tim e is 7 a m. until noon o oo Mountain Players w ill have their second showing of “ Nude With Violin’’ on Saturday night, July 2 at 6 p m This will be to attract some big name talent on a one or two night basis. / Pitman says he's been in volved in restaurants for over 40 years, and in addition to his teaching stint he has written a book on re s ta u ra n t management and done some volumes of poetry Although he's been in the Zigzag area only a few weeks, Fitm an's first impressions are good “ 1 love It here,’’ he said. “ I ’ve met some of the nicest people in the area up here." Fitm an w ill be helped at the Barlow Inn by his wife Linda, who w ill act as hostess The Fitmans have four children Cabaret Night. The dinner theatre was a complete sell out and a superb performance. Tickets can be purchased at Zig Zag Inn, Sentry M a rk e t, Hoodland Pharm acy and Brightwood ooo Hoodland Women’s Club is having their annual rummage sale th a t w eekend, too. Saturday the hours are from 10 a m to 6 p m. and on Sunday from 10 a m. to 3 p m. There w ill be two categories of consumption-one for those under 14 years of age, the other for those H a n d o v e r A u dri Cotton, fa ir en tertainment director, said she is looking for all categories of talent The talent contest, she said, " is really an old-time vaudeville show featuring the whole gamut of variety en tertainm ent." The field is wide open, she noted, for musicians, dancers, actors, comedians, acrobats and anyone else who has the talent to please an audience Talent contest eligibility is not restricted to Clackamas County. The ta lent contest Is a special featured of the 1977 annual county fair being held at Canby Tuesday thnxigh Saturday, Aug 16-20 Clackamas County Board to reconsider zone change The C lackam as County Board of Commissioners will reconsider a zone chane ap proval for the Carmel Estates Shopping Center An order to reconsider the zone change which would make possible the building of the »hopping center was given by the Land Conservation and D evelopm ent Comm ission (LCDC) A LCDC hearing» officer earlier thia year said that the zone change has violated statewide planning goals A spokesman for the LCDC said the commission upheld the hearings officer’s decision on June 11. Clackamas County Com m issioners are now required to "take each of the applicable statewide planning goals into account as they might effect the sone change." The county commissioners have not yet received official notice of the LCDC’s action. Clackamas County Com missioners in 1975 approved a zone change for the shopping center proposed for the Boring interchange area off Highway 26. Several adjacent landowners and the City of Sandy protested the zone change approval and shopping center proposal NVM EROL'S SANDY merchants are sprucing up their business establishments in preparation for the Sandy Mountain Days.
