Certified by the state, they range from people who take vital signs like heartbeat and blood pressure up to people who administer drugs or in travenous injections for trauma or coronary care. Most use the HEAR ( Hospital Em ergency A le rt Radio) system that puts them in contact with the doctor at the hospital. "Our job is to stabilize their condition prior to transport or during transport,” Goetsch said. “ We don’t administer treatment without the okay of a physician. I t ’s a m atter of taking the medication to the patient rather than vice ver sa.” Additional classes at Gresham hospital are planned for fall, Cromwell said.
