POST — 9 Forest Inventory planned A tim ber inventory will be Land Management This three-county inventory conducted this summer of forest lands in Clackamas, is part of the nationwide forest Multnomah and Washington s u rvey a u th o rize d by the counties by the Pacific N orth McSweeney-McNary Forest west F o re s t and R ange Research act of 1928 Purpose E x p e rim e n t sta tio n , US. of the inventory is to provide Forestservice, Portland information on current and tim b e r supplies. Work w ill continue through fu tu re September to measure timber Inform ation from the inventory on a ll lands except those w ill be combined with sim ilar managed by the National data from national forest and Forest System and Bureau of Bureau of Land Management lands to provide statistics on the total timber resources of each county At the tim e the last inventory in 1901, the three counties were estimated to contain 5,972 million cubic feet of softwood and hardwood timber. The total area of commercial forest land in the three counties is 1,328,00C acres. Mason, past state president of the Oregon State Federation of Garden clubs, In c ., spoke on “ D a h lia Culture.” She showed the nine types of dahlias and discussed soil preparation, planting, fe r tiliz in g , p inching back, staking, dis budding and the final cutting and preparing for showing in competition. One of the highlights of the morning was the presentation of two state life memberships by M rs Verne I. B rader to Mrs. Ned Dyal who served the Sandy Garden club as president for three years and to Mrs. Vem ie Andrews the current president. Fieldw ork will be done by experim ent station employees with experience in timber survey and by student summer employes under the direction of foresters Hal Arbogast, Dale Baer, J.D . Lloyd and Bruce Hiserote The survey crew will relocate and collect data on 174 one-acre plots in the three- county area.
