The Blue M arlin boys, like their female counterparts, also placed strong in the com petition at the Cowlitz County swim club. The 13-14 year old boys 200 The Blue M arlin Aquatic club participated March 9-10 in the Columbia Basin Swim League Red Conference meet at Kelso, Wash The C ow litz County Swim Club hosted the meet. Six other league teams competed The conference meet closed the season for the junior Blue M arlin strokers. Practices w ill resume for the spring-summer season May 1. Splashing some outstanding performances in Washington two weeks ago were Nancy Marsh in the girls 11-12 year-old competition, and Chris Roth, in the boys 15-17 age bracket. Impressive Sandy swimmer Nancy Marsh took first place ribbons in the 100 back and 100 fly , second 200 in d iv id u a l medley, and helped ner medley relay team take second place honors and the free relay team place third. Chris Roth stroked to firs t in the 200 I.M ., third 100 yard fly, and was a member of the fifth place 200 free relay t$am, and the sixth medley relay Team. I The 10 year and under girls free relay team, comprised of Erica Neuenfeldt, Nancy Roh- weder, Joni Duff and Cindy Zogg, placed sixth against the other tank teams at Kelso. Shelly Moore, Nancy Roh- weder, Joni Duff and Erica Neuenfeldt also took third and the medlay team second. Girls on these two teams are Barbie King, Karen Rohweder, Leann Madison and Nancy Marsh. Jeanne Duff, Katie Neuen Tuesday evenings the Women’s Fitness class under the direction of Gerry Ross meets at Reynolds High School gym to p a rtic ip a te in calisthenics, volleyball, bad minton, etc., to be followed by a dip in the swimm ing pool. Thursday evenings offer a choice of Beginning Golf or Yoga. The Gold class w ill cover the basics of equipm ent, correct shape, correct stance and swing and whatever is needed to put a beginner on the golf course. Overall there were about 36 per cent fewer birds wintering in the state than last year. In checking a ll the m a jo r w aterfow l w in te rin g areas, biologists counted 263,000 ducks—a 35 per cent reduction from last ye ar—and 47,000 geese, which was only slightly more than half of those ob- j served in 1973 Total figures are down some 23 per cent from the average of the previous ten years Biologists also counted the eagles observed on the survey areas They saw 62 bald eagles and 69 golden eagles, almost exactly the same numbers observed last winter Nearly a th ird of the eagles were juvenile birds, indicating good production. Some 40 biologists par ticipated in the survey which took a week during the early part of January Many areas were completely frozen over and birds were concentrated in large numbers on any open water Observers reported that even salt water bays along the coast were partially frozen during the survey Chet Kebbe, small game bio log ist w ith the W ild life Commission, said the wintering figures for the state are not re a lly s ig n ific a n t u n til the observations of other states in the P a c ific F ly w a y are tabulated too.
