POST - 9 Hoodland artist opens her ’special place* Hoodland O n The G o By M A R G E C A RO THERS A long lim e dream lias come I m e for Hoodland artist Veda Y an c ey, who has a lw a y s wanted a studio of her own "A special place, with ample storage for supplies, where one can leave a mess out and while away the hours in cheerful, cozy s u rro u n d in g s ", is the desire of most artisans and this is exactly what Veda Yancey has attained Her new studio next door to the Yancey home at Mt A ir Park, off Highway 26 has everything she wants P eaceful se ttin g a m id ta ll trees, high ceiling with plenty of windows, a fireplace and plenty of work space Long sought after to share her talents with others, Veda's refusal to teach art classes in the past were based on the desire to "do it in my own place, in my own w ay ". Now she is all set to do this and will open the studio Feb 1. with daily classes from 11 a m to 2 p m Classes at the "Palette P ad " will include lessons in Folk Arts such asTole painting. R o se m a llin g , D ecoupage, Glazing and antiquing as well as oil painting Veda and her husband Garnett Yancey have lived in Hoodland for 11 years and have both been active in community affairs Veda’s talents were put to use fre q u e n tly by the Hoodland Women's Club and the Mt Players for posters and stage sets Although Veda planned to “ re tire ” when she moved here, she was soon involved in the o p e ratio n of the S h ake-In n which her husband bought and later sold When the Shake-Inn was sold, she again “ re tire d " to painting and was encouraged to exhibit some of her work She took first, second and third p la ce a w a rd s at the Washington State Art Exhibit in th re e g ra n d c h ild re n . T h e ir m o u n ta in -s ty le home is a showcase of ch a rm in g mementos, beautiful refinished and antiqued furniture, with lovely examples of their fine talen t fo r ev ery phase of handicraft and artwork ap pearing in each nook and cran n y .
