Mt Hood is deep at fullback Two of the best appear to be Steve Dionas (6-1, 205) and Darrell Stevens (5-11, 207). Two experienced halfbacks will lend solid running and blocking to Hiebert's trip le option attack Curtis Mayes is a breakaway threat having averaged 7 4 yards per-carry in '71 He was Mt Hood's second leading ball carrier last fall Tom Diaz mans the other halfback He scored 5 TDs last fall and is an outstanding blocker The Saints averaged 178 yards rushing last fall and 111 yards passing. An experienced defensive corps will be a m ajor asset on this year's club Ric Altishin (6-2 , 240) moved from the offensive line to defensive end. The Central Catholic grad will be teamed with Glen Watters (5-11, 195) At defensive ta c k le , the Saints boast (6-2. 240) LeoC lar Mt Hood’s Tennessee-style defense will be headed by an outstanding group of linebackers Kim Fox (5-9, 180, from Marshall) was second-team all conference at m iddle linebacker last fa ll He's flanked by Stan Mendenhall (5- 9. 200) and Duke Minium (6-2, 205) Kevin West (6-1, 205). a freshman from Parkrose, will see a lot of playing time. Bob Boustead is the lone returner in the Saints secon dary He’s the quickest man on the squad Boustead is being counted on for the leadership needed in the loss of Harrington, Hugh Woodward and Scott Seiler Freshmen Bob Bird, Mike Booker, D arrell Mellum and Scott Sanders will battle for the remaining slots along with Gresham grad Mike Williams Stan Woodfill, a freshman from Gresham, will handle the Saints kicking chores in the loss of Woodward. G rays H a rb o r, defending division cham p, w ill again contest the Saints for a spot in the conference championship game. Size, depth, running and defense must propel the Saints if they're to reach their goal of an NAACC championship in only their third year of com petition. CURTIS MAYES, sophomore halfback from Benson, gives Saints breakaway threat.
