Mini - courses involve students at Welches

Monday night, after driving I
over what seemed to be half of I
the area outside of Lewiston, I
Ida . and having decided that I
Idaho had a great lack of I
campgrounds, we stopped at a I
KOA campground on Highway I

new campground, only a year I
old The restrooms and showers I
are a complete delight

We also drove up the
Clearwater River, which is a
tieautiful river and can't un
derstand why they don't have
some cam pground# on it
Tuesday evening, Mert and ]
Emma Wheeler joined us for
dinner and we planned our
morning meeting to go up the
Snake River
Up at
4 30 Wednesday
morning, down to Lewiston
where we met Mert and Emma
for breakfast and off to the dock
to board our boat

Emma
had
presented us with a huge
watermelon the night before, so
decided we would take it with
us When we got to the dock. 1
was carrying the melon, and
the poor kid that took our
baggage, just stood and stared
at me for a minute, then said.
"Your the first person that ever
brought one of those with you "
So guess it was a first on the
R ivers navigation boat
We took off at 7 a m for one
of
the
most
fabulous,
magnificent two day trips I
have ever been on The weal her
was the best, the scenery was
out of this world, the company
was the greatest Besides the 10
of us, there were 14 other
people on the boat, plus the
pilot, Dick Rivers, and his co­

We also stopped along the
way delivering the mail
Where the Salmon River and
the Snake River meet, is where
we put in for lunch
We arrived at our night camp
around 4 p m TTie dinner bell
rings at 6 30 Such food, you
wouldn’t believe Huge spencer
steaks, scalloped potatoes,
sliced tomatoes, peas
and butter, and sc rut
Welches and each course will
last six weeks
It is hoped that people of the
community will become in­
volved in teaching mini courses

$250 was reported stolen from a
car parked at Ouchido Farms
on 190th SE Friday, according
to sheriff's reports
The purse belonged to Velma
Williams, 231 SE 196th. who had
left the car locked

A new school library at
Welches'* There have been so
many changes in the school
library that it almost seems
like a new one.
At this point there are 350
new books to start the school
year and more orders are

coming The Oregonian, the
National Observer, and the
Kandy Pott have been added to
the subscription list Several
new titles of magazines are also
arriving.
Because of the acoustical
flooring which has also been
added to the library, many
classes have been using the
library as a place to hold class
meetings This new flooring
absorbs sounds so well that the
library has become an ideal
place for studying and for
recreational reading
Feel free to come and visit
