Powell, died Jan. 10, in a Portland hospital at the age of 87 years. Mrs. Bowen was born Sept. 22, 1884 in Glen Allen, Mo. She lived in Missouri on a farm with her parents where she grew to womanhood. In 1919 she moved to Colordao where she operated an apartment house for 40 years in Delta. After living in Delta for 50 years, she moved to Oregon to live with her daughter in Sept., 1970. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Survivors include her daughter. Mabel F. McManus, Portland; grandchildren: Maxine Johnson, Portland; Darrell McManus, Fairview; Dean McManus, Gresham, Bernard McManus, Sandy; and Nadine Banks, Sandy; 18 great grandchildren and 2 great- great -grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 13, 2:00 J o h n F. B u rn s p.m. in the Chapel of Sandy Funeral Home. Mr. Burns was born Aug. 10, M a r l i s s K u b i t z 1891 in Crookston, Neb In 1902 Marliss Marie Kubitz, 30, of he moved to Portland with his Rt. 3, Box 71, Molalla, died Jan. parents where he attended school. She and they lived in Wyoming and traveled with him until 1945 Sandy, before m oving to when they settled in Los Molalla two years ago. She is survived by her Angeles. Mrs. Burns preceded husband, Kenneth, her him in death in 1946. Mr. Burns liv ed in Los children, Debra Mead, Kim Angeles until December 1971 Palmer and Lisa Palmer and Dana Kubitz all at home. Her when he moved to Sandy. Survivors include three parents, Sidney and Jean sisters: Mrs. Hazel Luck, Meyer of Boring and brothers, Wayne, Dwayne, Van, Rodney Sandy; Marie Webb, Sandy; Mrs Zelma Crane, California; and Mallory Meyer all of and a brother; Charles Burns, Boring also survive. Funeral services will be held Portland. Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bateman Recitation of the Rosary was Funeral Chapel with con held Friday, Jan. 7, in the cluding services at Cliffside . chapel of Sandy Funeral Home. Requiem Mass was Saturday at Cemetery. St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Sandy. Concluding serv ic es were at Gethsemane Cemetery, Portland. In lieu of flowers donations were made to the Oral Hull Foundation for the blind. Jo h n Y u rs a John Michael Yursa, 70, of Rt 3, Boring, died in a Van couver, Wash., hospital Dec. 29 after an extended illness. He was born in New York and m arried Esther Smith in Seattle on Jan. 7, 1930. They lived in Portland until 1948 when they moved to the Boring- Pleasant Home area where they resided since. He was a veteran of WWII and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Assn. He is survived by his wife Esther, and his brother, Joseph in Bedford, N Y.; his sisters, Mrs Mary Brown of Vemona, N.J and Mrs Anna Fletcher of Newark, N.J. Five nephews and one neice also survive. He came back to the U S as a young man and worked for the Oregon Woolen Mills. The last eight years he' worked for Lynch School as a custodian. He married Mary E. Stamm on Jan 1, 1952 in Portland. Seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive as does his sister, Anna Moore of Mapleton. R3 A lth a M e ta u e r M in n ie N ic h o ls Minnie Berl Nichols, Rt. 1 Box 778, Boring, died Jan. 9, at the age of 75 years. She was born in Columbus, Ind., and moved to Missouri as an infant. From Missouri she moved to Oregon in 1942. In 1958, after her marriage to Orma Nelson N ichols, she moved to the Gresham-Boring area. Mr. Nichols preceeded her in death on Dec. 16, 1971. She was a member of the Nazarene Church. Surviving are many nieces and nephews and in-laws. Convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol in creased 20 per cent last year with 8,413 reported That figure includes 631 people who were convicted of driving with a blood alcohol reading of 15 or more after that new law took effect early in September Administrator Oiester W Ott said the number of license suspensions ordered by the agency decreased about 12 per cent last year, with 53,052 suspensions issued The d ecrease resulted from ch an ges in the law that eliminated failure to make a security deposit in connection with the s ta te ’s financial responsibility law and driving on a suspended license as reason for mandatory suspension.
