Shopping Center See page 15 for prize list Ski bus system possible answer to traffic problems As in past years the traffic problem on Highway 26 during the skiing season is terrible in the Sandy-Hoodland area. Especially each weekend. The traffic problem is not only caused by the large amount of automobiles but also by the road conditions in the ski areas. Last weekend heavy snowfall in the Mt. Hood area caused a huge traffic jam delaying many skiers from returning home for hours, according to the Oregon State Police. In an effort to help the traffic problems in the area, Tim berline ski area operator Dick Kohnstamm is in the process of making use of a shuttle bus system. The shuttle buses will operate between Tim berline Lodge ski area and the Hoodland Park Plaza Shopping Center in Wemme. The shuttle system is scheduled to start this Saturday, Jan. 15. Kohnstamm said that the ski area w ill be furnishing an 80 per cent subsidy to G ray Line busses to operate the shuttle bus system from the shopping center 18 miles down the mountain. Arrangements have been made to use a shopping center’s parking lot for skiers’ Hoodland precinct Hoodland On The G o To enter events on the calen dar, call: Joyce Bowman, <22-4422, or J ill Beach. <22- Weaving, chair caning and 3301. “ Back to Nature Cooking” are TH UR SDAY. The round trip bus fare is ll.bu, with 81 of this credited against a lift ticket purchase at the lodge. Acceptance of the system w ill mean more skiing miles, less cars to be dug out of drifting snow at the end of the day and less-harrowing driving in the snow country. “ I t ’s a pioneer effort” , said Kohn stamm. “ I t ’s cheaper to subsidize the busses than to build another parking lot up here. And this solution is certainly better for the environment. Busses start running this weekend (Jan. 15), leaving the Welches shopping center at 7:15 a.m . and 7:45 a.m . Another bus originates at the nearby Bowman's Golf Club at 8 a.m ., stopping at the shopping center. Return trips leave the lodge at 5 p.m. The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce has also expressed interest in sponsoring a ski bus from the Sandy area to also help solve some of the traffic problems. The Chamber indicated recently that if enough persons indicated they would make use of such a shuttle bus from the Sandy area the Chamber would sponsor it. M O N D A Y. Jan. 17 C .C .D .
