The man then left without leaving his name, and they are hoping he will read this and know how much they appreciated his efforts. Chuck Hickey reported he had a Christmas Card from A1 Green, who is overseas, and that A1 wished to be remem bered to his friends on the mountain, that he wishes them all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope some enterprising person or group will take it upon themselves to devise a way to make boxes before next Christmas. I could not bring myself to pay the horrible price of 35 cents for a box that would barely hold a tie. I should think that a group like the scouts or someone could start collecting small size boxes up to dress size boxes, recover them, and sell them during the year and especially at Christmas for a nominal fee. At least we could then afford ICE COVERED much of the new route planned for Highway 26 on the mountain this week as cold weather set in. Here the bridge over Salmon Creek waits for work to be again started on it. Chains were required for travel over the mountain during the weekend. (Post Photo) to put our gifts in boxes At the price this year, it was either give the box, or forget the box and give a gift Maybe they could go and talk to some of these box manufactures, and get rejects, for a good price, and repair them and or recover them Hope someone comes up with a good idea Now I suppose the market will be glutted with boxes, and the price will be way down. Hope not. The Hood-Land Chamber of Commerce Prize night will be Jan. 8, at the Barlow Trail , Lodge. Dinner starts at 7 p.m. 1 and Game time is 8 p.m. Always good food and a good ■ tim e at the Hood-Land Chamber Prize nights The Annual Hood-Land Chamber of Commerce All- Member dinner will be held on Jan. 21, Thursday, at the Zig Zag Inn. Social Hour starts at 6:30, dinner will be served at 7:30. This dinner is open to the public, and they hope past as well as present members, and their friends will attend. Mert and Emma Wheeler were gone over the Christmas Holidays. They took a short trip down into California, after stopping at their daughters hom es, to leave off the Christmas goodies While they were gone, someone entered their home and stole Emmas engagem ent ring, and a wedding ring of M ert’s mothers, that was a keepsake. Emma hadn't been wearing her engagement ring because it had become so thin they were afraid it would break. That’s all that was taken. Nothing was disturbed, outside of what was knocked off the dresser where the culprit came in the window. Everyone seems to have recovered from Christmas and from the New Year. A few red eyes, and slow moving shapes around, but as a whole they all held up fairly well. Naomi and Walt Blaisdell hosted a belated holiday dinner for the Kasch’s, the Louis Phelps, the Howe’s and the Blaisdells. A delicious dinner, and a most enjoyable evening was had by all. Just remember that from now on for the next 360 some odd days, you are to write 1971 on checks and what have you. Wonder how many will goof as I have done already already reached their second 10,000 points, and the Hood- Land area has 7200 points to date, or $36 worth. Surely there are some people who have coupons on hand that have meant to turn them in but just haven't gotten around to it, plus all the people who have done baking for the holidays, and have extra coupons. Lets get them turned in before the deadline. We attended the wedding of Diana Blaisdell and Bill Bennett in Salem. It was one of the most enjoyable weddings 1 have been to in a long time. The Chaplain from Willamette U., who performed the services, had the couple facing the audience the first part of the ceremony, and it was delightful to be able to look at their faces instead of their backs, all through the service. The reception was a lovely affair. Course the rain and wind during the drive home were something else Thought we would blow away, but made it in good shape. Diana and Bill will live in Mt. View California, where Bill is law student at Stanford. Just received word that Fred Krull passed away Sunday evening. Our deepest sympathy to his family. Fred will be missed on the mountain. It just won’t be the same at the Prize nights and other local doings not to see Fred in attendance. The Betty Crocker Coupon Drive for Kidney Machines will end on May 31. SENTRV IM S IT ! -r Hoodland m e e t set Tuesday The Hoodland Planning Group has called its next meeting for Jan. 12 at 7:30 at Bowman’s. The group will hear talks from C lackam as County planning director Jim Hall and from Dick Buscher, head ranger at the Zig Zag ranger station. Hall will talk about the concept of planning while Buscher will speak on the land use plan which the forest service now has in use in the Rhododendron area.
