w ill be asked to a p pro ve a new
ta x base fo r the colleg e on M ay
26.
The c u rre n t ta x base is
$875.000, w h ic h re p re s e n ts
about 30 p e r cent o f the budget
fo r the present 6,000 students.
S ta te a n d fe d e r a l s o u rc e s
c o n trib u te about 50 p e r cent
and tu itio n about 20 p e r cent.
The basic reason fo r the
request is the la rg e nu m b e r of
students who have e n ro lle d at
M t. Hood. F a ll e n ro llm e n t in
1967 was 3,429. In tw o yea rs,
th a t fig u re has n e a rly doubled
to 6.528. A nd e n ro llm e n t is now
th re e ye a rs ahead o f pro-
tions m ade ju s t tw o ye a rs ago.
The proposed ta x base is
$1,750,000. The new ta x base
w ould cost about 20 cents m ore
pe r $1,000 o f p ro p e rty value
than reside nts a re now paying.
On a $15,000 hom e th is w ould
am o u n t to about $3 m o re fo r
ne xt ye a r.
The new ta x base authorizes
about 60 cents m ore , but o n ly 20
cents is budgeted fo r ne xt yea r.

cents a day and c o m m e rc ia l
custo m e rs about 15 cents.
