(Incidentally, keep you r eyes peeled for an a n n o u n c e m e n t about the opening of the new “Gay’s Kache” in the soon-to-open shopping center at Wemme on Welches Rd.) Prizes for best costumes were awarded to Ella Brown, a delightful lady and Claude Gudge, a fine fellow... wellll, most o f the time, but he does have that insane urge about z ip p er s! (Fortunately, he doesn’t usually let it get the best o f him only at Luau’s!) Then there was another great Mountain-style gathering at Avery Park hosted by George Staggs, owner o f the Barlow Trail Inn, for all his pals and customers (actually, one and the same) with a yummy buffet that was tackled several times by each guest! TWO TERRIFIC PARTIES past and two coining up: The Luau at the Zig Zag inn was great! Food was fabulous and there was enough delightful peopie partaking in the fun to bulge to Cellar walls. I might mention, however, that the next time 7-year-old Timmy Stauffer wants to show me a big fish - I’ll don a bathing suit first!) ♦ ♦ * Two g o o d -fo o d and lo t s of-fun-type parties are coming up. Both will take place at the Hoodland Park Recreation Building and will be sponsored by the Hoodland W o m e n ’ s C lu b . As s o m e t h i n g d iffe r e n t th e Women’s Club decided to hold their year round Fun Nights in the recreation building during the summer months. This not only makes for a pleasant change o f scenery but it also frees the local establishment owners from a chore that they have graciously and willingly undertaken for quite a few years. (It even gives them an opportunity to attend as guests without a single worry about food, etc.) This Friday night, Aug. 22, a Bar-B-Q steak dinner will p r e c e e d the usual games starting at 7 p.m. You get to cook your own steak! Salad baked potatoes and garlic bread will complete the menu. There is a separate room for the younger generation and they are welcome to attend. The next Fun Night, set for the last Friday in September, is so m e th in g to prepare in advance for. It will be an old fashioned box lunch social and everyone is to dress as children going back to school! Another fun idea o f Lou Stauffer’s, who is in charge o f the Fun Nights for the Women’s Club this year (Her Spaghetti Feed last month was great and the co o k -y o u r-o w n Steak idea s h o u ld b e e v e n m ore successful.) * * * S H O R T SH O TS: Bud Meadows home from hospital after appendectomy...Gene and Gordy Clausing home from sailing across the Pacific - will get details later... Wall Street Journal. ■926 __________________ I Mountain Grange held their regular b u sin ess meeting Monday evening. Aug. 11, at their hall on Sleepy Hollow Road with good attendance o f local members. Two new members, Carroll and Lucille Corder were given» the first and second degrees and were welcomed by the members. The b u sin ess m eetin g in clu d ed reports by the committee chairmen and plans were made for future activities. At the grange hall on social night, Monday, Aug. 25. at 8 p.m. Ray Steiger o f the ZigZag Ranger Station will give a talk w ith slid e s o n “Natural Community of Plants and Animals on Mt. Hood.” Guests were invited. "Cradle Roll" HOST OF BARLOW TRAIL Inn picnic, George Staggs, center, chats with Millie and Bill Lenz about their recent trip to Alaska. The picnic was held at the home of the Don Mvery's on the Sandy River. (Post photo) Rogers” o f the Mountain? Mit horse, cowboy boots and all a certain gent at Zigzag has gone Western in a big way...After next Tuesday call Milt Fox “Miltie the Movie Star”! He plays the Judge in “The Mightiest Clydersdale” being filmed in the Estacada/Sandy/- Hoodland area by Bill Hunt and Oliver Drake. (More about this next week with pics) Lee Flynn is already a busy-bee making plans for the se c o n d an n u a l Hoodland Women’s Club Membership Tea to be held Sept. 21 in’ the Recreation Bldg. She would like club members to contact her with names o f prospective members so she can send them invitations. The tea last year was a great success under Lee’s management so it looks like she has a permanent yearly chore. Had an interesting chat with ex-County Commissioner Stan Skoko the other day and he asked me to pass on a big “ Hello” to his many friends in the Sandy/Hoodland area. Now in the Real Estate business (in Oregon City) Stan expressed a c o n tin u in g concern about c o u n ty a ffa irs. His vital concern with the developement and growth o f Clackamas County led him to accept an advisory position with the C. C. Planning Commission and he made no bones about his desire to resume a political career in the county. (I think it’s kinda nice to know people like Stan (and Darrell Jones, too) can be voted out o f office but they still can be counted on for just plain old caring, and with a capitol “C”, about what goes on in Clackamas County!) Incidentally, Stan that com from your truck garden was the best I’ve ever eaten!) Another big “Hello” to Mountain area friends comes via Millie and Bill Lenz from Margie and Bert Craigen now living in Fairbanks, Alaska. Bill and Millie recently returned from a five-week trip up North and they managed to look up se v er a l ex-Sandy/Hoodland people. Among whom were Arlen Colclasure, a former Greshamite with PGE, who now runs an air taxi service at C o o p e r L an ding Frances B acon R e e d , a fo rm er Sandyite, now managing the city office at Anchorage and June (Hull) and Bobby Murray now o f Keina Ala. All send regards to far-away friends! (After 8,000-mHes of camper traveling Millie and Bill have tons o f interesting tales to tell and unlike other travelers I’ve known, they were sorty to have to come home so soon.) e • e Haven’t had an opportunity to visit the Tiki Treasure Temple yet but I hear it’s a “ must see” for everyone. The location at Alder Greek features imported gifts, hand p a in te d ch in a by Vlasta Norman (a real expert, gals, so take lessons if you can) and o f course all types of printed matter is still the stock-in-trade of Joanne Norman and Betty Pinneil. The Hoodland Kindergarten will open Sept. 8, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the new Welches Grade School. Register your younguns by calling Clara Turin at 622-4491 or Doris Petersen at 6 2 2 4 2 8 3 . (While talking to Clara it dawned on me that school is about to start again and I couldn’t believe summer vacation is so near the end! For some reason I had the fe e lin g summer was just starting...Wow, does the time flit by!) Milt Fox is still in need of cast members for the Mountain Players production o f “The Caine Mutiny Court Martial”. Please contact him at 3150 if you are interested. Don’t be afraid to call if you haven’t ta k e n part in p r e v io u s productions - We would be delighted to have some new faces as well as the old veteran players! Note to Don Budd: Sorry about the name mis-print last week the last thing you are is a “ Dudd”! N ote to Dick Buscher: Thanks for giving the Mountain something new to talk about kinda takes the pressure o ff o f Yours Truly for awhile! Bye now Snoop P.S. Delighted with the reaction re the new Hoodland tabloid section o f the Sandy Post! Remember, it will take a few weeks to get it set up and the first edition will be sent to e v e r y o n e subscribers and non-subscribers alike! P.S.S. PERSONAL NOTES: In answer to querries about the Carothers’ family: daughter Jan is working for the First National Bank at Burlingame and returns for her senior year at Lewis and Clark College in S e p t ....D a u g h t e r D ean n enjoyed her trip to Europe and is now visiting her grandparents in Medford before returning to Sandy High...Son John enjoyed working for the Forest Service this summer and has returned to Loma Linda University where he starts his second year as a pre-med student...Son Michael enlisted in the Marine Corp and leaves for Boot Camp O c t. 4. He arranged his schedule to insure his being with the family over the Holiday Season. Mike is still a Golf addict and he hopes to place on the Marine Corp Golf Team. (His mother would appreciate this too!!!) And speaking of “Mother” Carothers; Nothing has been decided about the property - yet! I haven’t sold it - nor leased It to anyone. All offets are under consideration - and probably will be for some time. I have no reason to rush into anything. As for the persistant rumors re Snoop’s personal life - they get funnier and funnier by the minute! After hearing the latest one I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry...True • I have gained back some lost weight - but only because I have begun to eat again! Yea, I do have top-soil available but Mease contact Rus Konell if you want some. For wood contact Ed English at the Good Hood Wood Co. office - not me.!
