WALTER
FRANKLIN
REED
Walter Franklin Reed, 74,
of Rt. 1, Box 530, Boring, died
at a local hospital July 2. Mr.
Ree<I was born May 23, 1892
at Peace Valley, Mo.
The early years of his life
were spent in Missouri, where
he attended school. March 3,
1919 at West Plains, Mo., he
married Alma Riggs. July 26,
191M at WM i Plains, Mo., he
enlisted in the U, S. Army. He
was a Pvt. Company D of the
70th Infantry. Feb. 4, 1919 at
Camp Funston, Kan., he was
discharged.
In 1923 they left Missouri,
and moved to Oklahoma. In 1934
they moved to theCottrellcom-
munity. There they had made
their home and farmed. He was
a member of the Methodist
church, a charter member of
the Sandy American Legion,
and had been in failing health
the past year.
The surviving members of
his family include the widow,
Alma of Boring; two brothers,
Joe B, of Boring and Fred of
Portland; and five sisters, Mrs.
Pearl Powers of Canyon City,
Mrs. Alice Moore of Mounds,
Okla., Mrs. Maye Bondy
of
Sandy, ( Mrs. Mary Breedlove
of Gresham and Mrs. Ruth
lauderback of Boring.
Funeral services were held
July 5 in the Chapel of Carroll
Funeral Home. Interment was

Henry Alto Ten Eyck, 73,
Rt. .1, Box 722, Sandy, died
July 1. He was bom in Sandy
tn So|s<. 9, 1892.
Ten Eyck attended school at
Marmot. He had lived all of
his life in the Sandy area and
had worke<i as a farmer. On
Jan. 31, 1919 he married Lu-
ella Mae Moore. Ten Eyck
served in the U. S. Army during
World War I as a PFC in the
Heavy Art. 46th Reg. He was
an avid outdoorsman, pioneer
and fisherman and hunter.
Surviving are the widow, Mae
of Sandy; three sons, Richard
of Summerdale, N. J., Robert
of Milton-Freewater, and Vic­
tor of San Pablo, Calif,; three
daughters, Mrs. Betty Jean
Goodrich of Dayton,
Wash.,
and Mrs. Jo Anne Kock of
Grass Valley; 13grandchildren;
one great - grandchild; broth­
ers, Edward of Sandy, Miles
of Portland, and Glenn of Port­
land; sisters, Mrs. Rose Lank­
ins of Springwater, Mrs. Ive
Vaeretti, Sandy, Mrs. Jennie
Patterson of Tigard, Mrs. Lil­
lian Krey of Eugene, Mrs. Dora
Lindsay of Portland and Miss
Cora Ten Eyck of Eugene.
Services were held Tuesday,
July 5 in the Chapel of the
Carroll Funeral Home with
private interment in the Cliff­
side cemetery, Sandy. Rev. Ed
Neuenfeldt officiated and Mrs.
A. Bishop was the organist.
FRANK R. DUNSMUIR
Frank Robert Dunsmuir, late
of Route 1, Estacada, died fol­
lowing a heart at tack near Bish­
op, California, June 27, 1966
at the age of 39. He was bom
October 31, 1926 in Portland,
Oregon. He had lived in the
Estacada and Sandy area most
of his life. He had worked as
a logger and carpenter and gen­
eral handyman. He was a vet­
eran of World War II where he
served in the Navy.
He is survived by his wife,
Shirley V., four sons, Stephen
Ward,
Etale Robert, George
Randall and Dennis Franklin,
all at home. Hehas four sisters,
Margaret L. Latourette, Esta­
cada; Frances E. Morris, Bon­
neville; Dorothy Bacon, Walla
Walla; and Christine Limbaugh,
Boring. There are twobrothers,
James D. McLean, Government
Camp and Albert E. McLean,
Sandy.
Funeral services were Fri­
day, July 1, at Clayville Fun-

Lena Elizabeth Hutchins, 76,
of Sandy, died June 28 at a
local nursing home.
Mrs. Hutchins was bom Lena
Elizabeth Smith, June 14, 1884
In Wapinitla, and in 1907 she
married Irving Hutchins in
Gresham. Her husband pre­
ceded her in death in 1951,
Mrs. Hutchins death, re­
moves anirther Oregon pioneer
from our community. All her
life was spent in the Mt. Hood
area.
There are two children sur­
viving, Donald of Brightwood,
and Mrs. Laura Smith of Es­
tacada. Other survivors in­
clude a brother and a sister,
Rotiert Smith of Portland, and
Emily Carpenter of Washington.
Funeral services were held
July 1 in the chapel of Carroll
Funeral Home. Private inter­
ment was tn Forest Lawnceme-,
tery. Rev. Vern Kirstein offer­
ed the services.

SWEDISH HAM BALLS
1 lb. ground ham
1 lb. ground pork
3/4 cup bread crumbs
1 well-beaten egg
1/2 cup milk
Sauce:
1 cup brown sugar
1 Tablespoon prepared mustard
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup water
Combine
meats, crumbs,
eggs and tnllk. Mix thoroughly.
Form into small balls. Should
make about 50 hors d'oeuvres
size. Make into larger balls if
serving as a main dish. Com­
bine ingredients for sauce. Pour
over ham balls. Bake at 325
degrees for about 35-40 min­
utes. Baste frequently. Serve
in chafing dish and keep hot.

es for a group we served three
varieties of cheese cake--lem-
on, chocolate and pineapple. I
have previously given you the
recipes for the two former,
but had requests for the latter
version called Pineapple Pie.
PINEAPPLE PIE
3-oz, pkg. lemon flavored
gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1 8-oz. pkg. cream cheese
2/3 cup undiluted evaporated
milk
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup (13 1/2-oz. can) drained
crushed pineapple
1 9-lnch graham cracker crust
1/2 cup toasted coconut
ANGEL FOOD PIE
PART I:
1 lb. vanilla wafers crushed.
Line a 9” x 13” pan saving a
few crushed wafers for on top.
Cream 1 cup of butter and
add 2 1/2 cups sifted powdered
sugar. Cream together. Beat 4
eggs well and add to the butter
and sugar mixture. Add 1 tea­
spoon vanilla and mix well.
Put over crushed wafers.
PART II:
2 cups of whipping cream
whipped
2 cups or No. 2 1/2 can
crushed pineapple drained well
1 small bottle of marischino
cherries
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts
(walnuts, pecans or almonds)
Spread over Part I. Spread
remaining crushed wafers over
top of Part II. Let stand 1?
hours to chill. Serves 8-10.

1/2 lb. (2 cubes) butter

margarine
2 cups flour
2 cups pecans
4 Tablespoons powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
Cream butter, add sugar.
Cream together. Then add flour
and vanilla. Mix well. Shape
the dough around the pecans
using fingers. Keep the size of
the bars small as the recipe
doesn’t make many. Bake on
greased cookie sheet at 300
degrees for 40 minutes. From
