Quite often, we hear com plaints from their parents about “slow delivery” of papers and that when they do arrive, “It’s usually in a big batch.” The reason, of course, is that the paper travels by ship. Members of the House Post Office Committee traveled overseas last fall and when they interviewed U.S. sol diers, slow mail delivery was the ma jor complaint. Hence, the bill to fly APO mail. War supplies won’t be delayed by the new policy because aerial delivery will be on a “space available’’ basis. Nothing does more for morale than news from home and expediting the newspapers, packages, etc., is an ex cellent idea. What the Candidates Say . . . Now If legislative candidates sing the same song next winter that they’re singing now, taxes are going down. Statements going into the Voters’ Pamphlet are long on promises of tax savings. Nearly one-third of the candidates promise, one way or an other, to do something about taxes We all know, of course, that there’s quite a distance between promise and performance. But at least, they’re go ing on record. Some of the statements are fasci nating. One man, t for instance, invokes everything but motherhood and John F. Kennedy. He’s for “honest sincere, efficient government; fair taxation, LBJ, Duncan, Straub.” Then there is the man who espou ses "The new Republicanism. A new Republican.” We don’t exactly know what “new Republicanism” is. Another says he “Lives like a Dem- crat, works like a Democrat, votes like a Democrat.” A Democrat, we presume. Finally, there is the man who ends with an indeed lofty sentiment. “I will remember that each vote represents a human hope.” Dr. Albert P.
