A dinnerparty for Gloria Gaulke, in celebration of her birthday, was held at the home of her parents in Wem me. Speaking of birthdays, reminds me of a group of gals in Bright wood, who formed a club about ten years ago to celebrate theirs. They have a party for each mem bers birthday. Included in the group are Hazel Plaster, Maudle Sladky, Irene Schulthess, Addie Perry, Mary Bouray, Thelma Riggs, Max ine Hickey, Clara Lehota, Mrs. Henry Steiner, Mrs. Jonathan Richmond, Mrs. Jay Small and Mrs. McDonald. Next in line tor a party, are Maudl Sladky and Thelma Riggs. Happy Birthday gals! Neighbors of Mrs. R. B. Mount are glad that she has again re turned to her home in Brightwood. Miss Lynn Kehr is also back in Brightwood after a two month visit with friends and relatives in California and Iowa. Lyn is now back on the job at the zig Zag Inn. Mr. and Mrs. Hank Geisler of Portland are anticipating the com pletion of their lovely new home at Welches. They Wil’ be week enders temporarily, then will make the “big” move in the spring. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Buck of Portland, entertained the Portland Police dept, at a picnic in Bright wood. It pleased me to hear that you are enjoying the column. This is en couraging and I will do my best to continue "snooping” for you. A special "thank you” to Clarence and Maxine Clarendon of Brightwood, for their nice let ter and kind words. Will follow up on your news items next week. It was brought to my attention that capitalizing the names of people would be a good idea. This would make it easier to skim through the column to read about the people whose names you re cognize. I gave this suggestion much consideration and decided against it. I would rather you read the entire column than just skim through it. Mr. Frank Hancock of Portland has purchased property next to the Lions Hall in Wemme with the intention of building a Drive-In Theater next spring. (Please don’t change your mind Mr. Hancock, I think it’s a great idea!) Bowmans Mt. Hood Golf Club was the scene of a golf tournament for 200 Royal Rosarians last Sun day. (Where were your white suits fells? I didn’t recognize you without them.) The Hoodland Womens’ Club, Inc. would like to have “anything”, that you don’t want. The gals are having a rummage sale in Sept ember, to add to their growing building fund, for a community recreation center in the Hood- Land area. Call Sally Hurlbutt at Hood-Land 549 to arrange for pick-up. August is a dandy month for "spring cleaning”! There will still be plenty of time to get dirty again by spring. (Tell me girls, has anyone stepped forward with a donation of property for the community center yet??? Hint, Hint.) Seen dining at the Mt. Hood Golf Club; Deanna Jordan former ly of Arizona and Harley DeGraff of Portland. Was it business, plea sure , or both??? Dr. and Mrs. Elton Leavitt, of Sandy, were also spotted enjoying the pleasant atmosphere with friends, at the club. Dr. and Mrs. Roy Carothers, Dr. John Huston, Hank Geisler, and Dr. and Mrs. Esley Davis formed another happy group for dinner at the club. Dr. and Mrs. Davis, of Portland, are "Beatle” bound! They have tickets for their family to see the “Beatles” In Vancouver, B. C. on Aug. 22. Aren't you just green with envy?? No? How about your kiddies??? Different story, I'll bet! The executive group of the Chefs de Cuisine Society of Oregon has selected the Mt. Hood Golf Club for a "Chefs choice” dinner on Sept. 7th. The world is getting smaller all the time! It’s Public Stenographer, Dottie Shoup. Dottie returned from a trip east with a most becoming “newlook”. Better find something to be typed or notar ized, fellas, and go stand in line. Let me know, Dottie, if it’s true. Do blondes really have more fun? Several Hood-Landers are away on interesting trips, but we are waiting for their return home be fore putting it in the column. If you don’t see a news item that you have directed to our attention, right away, keep looking, as it will get in eventually. For those who have asked that the names of “The Snoopers” reporters be re-printed, here goes: Janet Hill in the Brightwood area, Vivian Collier at Zig Zag, Boo Gaulke at Wemme, Georgia Vermaas or Eileen Anderson at Rhododendron, Dorothy Devecka at Government Camp and Margie Carothers in Sandy. These gals are all listed in the Hood-Land phone book. They are all busy gals, so if you are unable to contact one of them, try another ones’ number. In case you are new to the area and unfamiliar with the above names, I’ll clue you in on how to get your items to us the easy way. First thing you do, is stop in at the “Brightwood Grocery Store” and Janet Hill will help you. Buy a piece of hard candy. Oh dear, did you break a tooth? Margie Carothers is a dental assistant in Sandy and will help you there. What, you say the dentist was careless and got blood on your clothes! Better head for the “Washing Well’’ in Rhododendron and meet Eileen Anderson there, Now that you’re clean again, you can stop at the “Zig Zag inn” for lunch and Vivian Collier will serve you. Feeling better now? How about a little golf. The best golf course on the mountain is, definitely, Bowmans ML Hood Golf Course. After the golf game, a bit of refreshment would be nice. Go into the restaurant and have a cup of coffee and a big piece of cake or pie. Isn’t it good? Stop in the bakery before leaving, and meet Boo Gaulke. She makes all the goodies for the golf club. Be sure to step into the kitchen and say "hello” to Dorothy Devecka too. Getting weary? Head up the mountain to "Rhody” again, and across the street from the "Washing Well” is the "Forest Haven Motel.” Check in, and meet Georgia Ver maas. Now wasn’t that a simple way to get acquainted with The Snoopers’ helpers? My goodness, you mean to say that after meeting them all, you forgot to give anyone the news item that you wanted to have “The Snooper” put in the “Hood-Land Happenings” column? Well it might be easier, at that, to drop us a line at the Sandy Post! In all seriousness, I would like to express my appreciation to the gals for all their help Ln gathering up the material for the column. It would be impossible to cover the entire Hood-Land area with out them. Have you heard about the French negotiating to buy the Rock of Gibraltar?
