Our most sincere sympathy to Rose Avery, for the loss of her mother. She died last week. We took a few days off anc went down to Baker, to elk hunt and to also visit. More visit than hunt. No elk, but had a wonderful time. Spent our time with David’s sister and her husband and family. Went down late at night so couldn’t see much scenery, but one part of the drive I thought was beauti ful. The other side of Pendleton, on Cabbage Hill, they had put out their snow poles. The poles are red and at the top they have a band of flourescent paint, and about 12 inches down another band. Each pole is placed behind a highway reflector pole. As you drive down the highway it looks just like Christmas Lane. Mighty pretty. On our way home it was starting to snow, but ran out of it this side MARINE PRIVATE CHARLES W. Have to plan these things a bit ahead so that there will be plenty to eat for everyone. For the first time, in as long as I can remember, we are not eating at home. The Hodges and the Howes are going to join forces and have a feast together. Won’t know how to act, not having Turkey day at home, but bet we have a ball. Hope every one else has a wonderful day also. There were five tables of dupli cate bridge at the Mt. Hood Coun try Club bridge club last Monday Nov. 11. During the last two months Clackamas County turkey growers have suffered some rather severe losses of turkeys. Turkey growers general y expect to lose an oc casional bird to someone who can’t resist the temptation to climb a fence, but losses since Labor Day have been substantial and frequent. It appears that an organized group of thieves has been working in the southeastern Clackamas county area using wholesale meth ods of gathering and disposing of turkeys. Two thieves were recently ap prehended in the area of Krieg’s Turkey Farm near Highland with several turkeys. It was the feeling of most of the growers at this re cent meeting that the $50 fine and 30-day suspended jail sentences were not commensurate with the crime. The planners of the tii’-key grow ers group also considered an in dustry-wide pot luck banquet du ring January, 1964. Additional plans will be made and all mem bers of the industry will be con tacted as to date, place, and time.
