Post Safety Award Given Firwood 4-H'rs Compete At County Fair The employees and manage ment of the Firwo.d Veneer Inc. plant near Sandv were presented with the state indus trial accident commission’s let ter of commendation at a plant safety meeting on July 26. The award was made by Ed Kubin. safety representative for the commission .and was re ceived by Supt. Morris Schol- ten. Basis for the award was the 100 per cent participation of all employees in the Safety Pledge Program, aimed at the reduction of accidents through a safety pregram involving ail employees of the firm A short talk, outlining fu ture safety activities, and a safety film. "Not Even One Chance’' shown by Lawrence Penkava. Salem special serv ice man, was included in the noon-hour program. Kubin complimented the firm on a good safety record to date, and expressed the hope that contin ued effort would result in an even better future record. These employees of Firwood Veneer plant were presented a letter of commendation by Ed Kubin, safety representative for the state industrial accident commission. There will be 55 mem bers in demonstrations, 194 in the dress revue, 22 in cake baking. 6 in bread baking. 15 in muffin making, 7 in dollar dinner and luncheon contests, 16 in flower arranging and 9 in dog obedience. The public is invited to watch these contests which are sched uled during the fair. Following is a schedule of 4-H events during the fair. Some of these are set for Tuesday since there is not enough time to hold all events after the fair opens on Wednesday. All home economics contest and demon strations will be held in the 4-H Exhibit building. Tuesday, Aug. 13 9 a.m. — Intermediate bread baking contest. 10 a m. — Horse showman ship. Wednesday, Aug. 14 9 a.m. — Cake baking con test. 8:30 am. Trophy winners were: Don nie Vedder, Debbie Vedder, Ju lie, Debbie and Jan Schenider. and Pam Longstreet. 1st place winners who receiv ed ribbons for their dogs were: Mike Leary, Mary Bak ke, Cindy Smith, Debbie Ved der, Julie Fleshman, Shirley Searls, Pam Longstreet, and Julie, Debbie and Jan Schnei- der. 2nd place winners who had dogs were: Roger Harrison, Pam Longstreet, Shirley Searls, Jeff Burdick, Debbie Vedder.
