He even had one rattler that loved rats, and three genera tions were raised in its enclos ure. And, when they were tak en away, it seemed the snake was lonely. There's been fun for Hanson in taking care of the animals and reptiles, but he's had some afxious moments doctoring a tortoise close to pneumonia and tending a bruise on a rat tle snake's nose after it had struck and hit the glass. Trim ming those porcupine toe nails was no snap either, even with the sedative, he added. He’s treated scratches, abrasions, upset stomach, fungus — the list could go on and on. His interests don't stop with animals and reptiles, he col lects fossils and rocks. One of his daughters has a large sea shell collection too. The upstairs of the Hanson home, formerly the Fireplace lodge, is devoted to animals, rock and shell collections and jars of preserved snakes—the friendly Algerian sand viper is there. "And don't be surprised if you drive by and see an ele phant sticking his head out of the upstairs window, some day," Hanson warned — "We won't.” The Rhododendron Summer Theater, which plans to open Saturday, June 29, with the "Yum Yum Tree,” is offering people of this area the oppor tunity to join the Theater Assn, as sponsors for the 1963 sea son. Businesses and individuals who conti ibute $10 or more will be listed as sponsors on the theater program. Sponsors will receive two seas m tickets good for four admissions in the front area reserved seat section. The box office value of these admis sions is $9.60. Funds raised will be used for improvement to the stage and seating area of the theater. The Mark Allen Players will present "The Yum Yum Tree" each -aturday night beginning June 29 until August 3, when they will present "Two For the See Saw." Friday nights will be held open for large groups. The current play will be presented each Friday th a t blocks of seats are purchased by clubs. On These Fridays there will generally be seats available for the public also, though it is suggested that persons wishing to attend on Friday phone William Spencer at the Log Lodge, Hood-Land 723, to make certain there will be a show that night. The theater is under cover and is located adjacent to the Loe Lodge at Rhododendron. TWO CARs DAMAGED A station wagon driven by Thomas E. Steffi of Sandy re ceived extensive front end damage at the intersection of Clover and Proctor avenue Sunday afternoon. Neither Stef fi nor his four children who were with him were injured. The other car, driven by Billy Woods Hillman of Portland, was also damaged in the front end, but there were no injuries. Lusted Lines HERE and THERE with AUDREY COLSON By MRS. J. H. John Lloyd Neill, hus band of the former Judy Ham ilton, received a master of science degree. He expects to study for a Doctor’s degree in science. Several relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Armstrong en joyed a Memorial day picnic at Blue Lake Park. Among those attending were the George Armstrongs, the Har old Krebs and family of West Linn, the Robert Paulsons, Claudia Armstrong of Eugene the Jake Kutchers, the Jack Kutchers and family and the Marian Kutchers and family, all of the Gresham area. Mrs. Henry Tilgner and daughter, Joyce, and Mrs. Vern Wasson were among those from this area who at tended the high school grad uation at Corbett. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Shriv er and son Dwight and Mrs. Vern Wasson drove to Cen tralia last Friday to visit her mother. Mrs. A. Sandstrom. Mrs. Florence Becker who was convalescing at the home of her son, Dean, returned to her own home recently. Delores Wasson has return ed fom a weekend vacation at the beach. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ickhoff and baby of Portland were Sunday visitors at the Vern Wasson home. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Grant of Portland were Saturday eve ning visitors at the Richard Dahlström home. Mrs. Thomas Caddy enter tained her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Hewitt at a family dinner party honoring Mr. Hew itt’s June 2 birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ellis of Portland were Friday eve ning visitors at the Thomas Caddy home. Phone MU 7-2051 Mr. and Mrs. "Whimpy" Eri attended the party held for Sue Emra at the Emra home aft er Sue’s graduation from high school Friday. Lila said there was plenty of food and too many people for her to re member and when I tried to phone Mr. and Mrs. Emra their phone was busy so I can not give the names of those who were there. I’m sure there were lots of parties given for all the kids who graduated. They should have phoned me if they wanted it put in the paper. Have you been stopping to get your tickets for the 1955 Ford Station Wagon to be giv en away this summer at Bob Reed's Richfield Service Station at Kelso? You better or I may win that car yet. Also, have you stopped in Kelso at the C & H Furniture and Upholstering Shop in the old Eri Store. They do a good job of upholstering and also have lots of used furniture. Stop in and browse around— you might see something you have been wanting. The Summer League of Bowl ing is in full swing now, with everyone trying to out ■ bowl the next person. Our Mon day night girls league started with full speed ahead last Mon day and we are having lots of fun. Ruth Davenport is our presi dent, Rita Oldenkamp, vice president, and Betty Chestnut, secretary. We may not be good but we're trying hard. Celebration Set The big event a lot of us ALWAYS ON CALL are looking forward to this year is the big Sandy Cele bration the middle of July. I will run briefly through the events this week and try to dig out more information for next week’s paper. First there will be a big pa rade Saturday morning; there will be some wonderful Go- Kart races, then Saturday night there will be the Gay- Way Street dance and the Car nival will be all afternoon and night of Saturday. Sunday will be the annual Kiwanis Fly-in Breakfast. It seems to me like a won derful weekend will be planned for us to have fun. We are looking forward to July. Also the first of July the Summer Recreation Program will start. Our church is looking for ward to next Sunday when Capt. Phillip Hampe, U. S. Air Force, will be in the pulpit. Hampe was our pastor from May 1953 through February 1956, at which time he was called to active duty as a Chaplain with the Air Force. This visit marks the 10th an niversary of Phil’s ordination to the Ministry and Installa tion as pastor of the S a n- dy Community Presbyterian church. During their stay in Sandy, Phil, his wife Marj, and sons Peter and Andrew will be the guests of the Glen Olsons. The Clinton Witter family and Mrs. Gertrude Caddy were Sunday callers at the Portland home of the Morris Munns. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nei man of Oakridge were recently in this area to attend the grad uations of their two grandsons. David Knoll graduated from Bull Run grade school and James Knoll, from Sandy high school. Dodge Park Picnic Den 5 group of Boy Scouts and their parents enjoyed a Monday evening picnic at Dodge Park. Saturday the Thomas Cad- dys and her father. Vance Hew itt, enjoyed a fishing trip to the Deschutes area. Marilyn Johnson and Mary- lou Caddy spent last weekend at Kahneta Hot Springs. Deloris Wasson spent the week end with her par ents, the Vern Wassons. The three joined the Ralph Shriv er family on a Sunday drive to the Larch mountain area. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Morgan were Sunday dinner guests at the Portland home of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Imbeau. William Morgan of Portland has been hospitalized at the Physicians and Surgeons hos pital. On his release he ex pects to convalesce at the home of his brother, Fred. Mrs. Mary F. Hamilton spent last weekend at the Portland home of her daughter, Mrs. Arnold Hust. Mrs. Amy Elliott Verheiden of Portland has been released from a hospital and is now re covering at her home. Seaside Vacation Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Wasson and Delores drove to Hillsboro on business Wednes day Delores joined the Quinn sisters. Sue and Sharon for a weekend vacation at Seaside. Last Sunday the Clinton Wit ter home was the scene of a family dinner party. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. Jess Gothard; Mr and Mrs. Martyn Witter and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harring and daughter, and Mrs. Gert rude Caddy. The Gothards recently left for an extended visit in Can ada. Mr and Mrs. Ken M Kel logg and children. Mark and Jill were Thursday callers in this area.
