Post Thursday, Feb. »1, 19K3 (See. 1) At Damascus— Benefit Dance Aids Families DAMASCUS — The benefit dance held for the Art and Robert Rykken families at Da mascus Grange hall Feb. 16, was a huge success according to V. H. Souders, master of ceremonies. The music was furnished by Bill McFarland's Oldtimers. The home ec club of Da mascus Grange presented two hand made quilts and two pil lows to the young Rykkens. Robert and Linda. Pie and coffee were served all evening by committee chairman Mabel Wescott as sisted by Mrs. F. E. Gergen, Mrs. Walter Schubert and Hel en Schubert with help on the clean up by Mrs. Erna Batch- eller and Mrs. George Doney. Jay Wescott and Kenneth Hod- ges took care of the gate, Bob Rounsefell was chairman of the parking committee as- sisted by the district volun- teer Firemen. Better than S200 was turned over to the Rykken family. Girl Scout Dinner Mrs. Wallace Iverson’s Girl Scout Troop 561 celebrated the anniversary of their first birthday last Friday. The girls guided by Mrs. Iverson planned and cooked their dinner Friday. And after spending the night in the club house, prepared the breakfast as part of the year’s program. Mothers are needed to serve on troop committees. Mrs. Iver son attended a leaders training meeting in Portland last Tues day. Yvonne Merry Staples and Jesse Sudul of Rt. 2, Boring, were married Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Martin Luther church, Milwaukie. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Staples of Da mascus. Pastor Raymond per formed the ceremony. The church was decorated with pink and white carna tions. Mrs. Ray Paxton was mu sician. The bride wore a white lace over white satin gown with a white net veil. White lace high heels. She carried pink carnations and a white Bible. The bride was given in mar riage by her father, Melvin Staples. The only attendant was maid of honor, Yvonne Becker. Candlelighters were Darlene Cox and Melvin Staples. Best man was Lewis Bliss. Ushers were Dwayne and John Stap les. Some 150 guests attended the wedding and reception that was held in the church reception room. Malinda and Marlene Burley poured, assisted by Vera and Rose Masen. The bride's going away cos- tume consisted of a blue suit she had made in her high school home economics class, topped with a carnation cor sage. The couple's wedding trip took them through Nevada and Arizona to Las Vegas and back through California. They will be at home at Rt. 2, Box 751. Boring, after March 3. Souders Lose Mare Mr. and Mrs. V. H. Soud ers lost a valuable quarter horse mare Saturday. The mare was due to foal soon, and became ill while eat ing. she started to bleed at the nose and rolled over and died. The cause of her illness will be discovered through an autopsy. The Souders have lost three valuable mares by the same manner within a ten year per iod. This particular mare was the special riding horse of Mrs. Souders. Edgar Grohn suffered a fa tal heart attack at his home about 8 a m. Saturday, Feb. 16. He is survived by his wid ow, Elda. The Boring firemen were summoned but Edgar fail- ed to rally. The Noah Calvin family is living in the Betty Schedeen house in Damascus. Sherrill, Andy and Noland are attending Damascus school. There are two small children at home. The firemen assisted by state policemen set up a communic ations system but the prowl ers escaped capture. Dee Wescott fire chief states, there will be a close watch on all business houses or property in Damascus.
