town of Sandy
pital longer than some ol the newcomers can remem
ber. It was back in 1949 when the first bulldozers
started moving earth on the big hill north of town.
Hui ing that summer hundreds of volunteer workers_
from Government Camp to Gresham-pitched in on
ott hours and pounded cement forms, raised stud-
dings, and bashed thumbs.
Gradually the big Sandy hospital building rose out
of nothing much more than a hope and a prayer.
Then the visible activities stopped. Funds were de
pleted. I he building was put in as good a shape as
possible. Anil mother nature took over graying the
newly cut lumber, settling the building.
However unfinished, the building still served some
what as a focal center for the town of Sandy. Not
only did it promote building activity on hospital hill,
but during the past five years, it has helped make the
community of Sandy pull together.
.
Preparations for the hospital auxiliary din
ner served last Saturday night at the Sandy
Ifradc school cafeteria were made by the vol

Although the steady rap of volunteer hammers
can’t be heard ringing off the hills and valleys, other
activities are going on.
One of the most important yearly projects is the
ham dinner staged by the hospital auxiliary. Although
it is a benefit dinner, not so terribly much money is
raised by the project. At the dinner held in Sandy
last Saturday night, $500 was added to the hospital
fund.
More important, probably, almost everybody in the
area went to the grade school cafeteria for the sup
per. And each and every one of the customers did
it for one reason-they wanted to help all they could.
Anil that’s what is important about the Sandy
memorial hospital.

These features an.l advantages are the measure
of a truly modern V8 engine . • . and only
Chevrolet has them in the low-price field. Most
aren't even found in high-priced cars. That’s
why Chevrolet is stealing everybody’s thunder
with the most modern V8 on the road!

Chevrolet’s V8 engines are so effi

Highest horsepower per pound!
These great V8's weigh far less than
any similar engine in America, top the
low-cost field in power per pound! ,
Shortest piston stroke in the industry!
Three-inch stroke reduces cylinder-wall frictloa.

wear, lighter loads on bearings.
