Horton. When we starting writing the I story, the usual question came up about “ How do you spell Aims?" Among others, Joe Binkley said he thought it was spelled “ Ames," and I’m quite sure I’ve seen it spelled that way. .After asking a number of other people, we wound up with almost as many s|iellings a-. people that were asked. B. Bradley In spite of weather that is more like March than like May, the summer golfing season at the Mt. Hood Goif course has opened with a great spurt of ac tivity. On last Wednesday, May 13, the University Club Women of Portland chartered a bus and came out to the golf links for their tournament. There were about 45 of them and they had lunch at the Club house over looking the beautiful greens. On May 14, next day, the Sandy senior high school came out for the whole day, some 55 or 60 of them. They ate their lunch at the golf course, had their tournament, and then had a wiener roast in the evening. They had a fine time in spite of threatening weather. Tournament Due This coming Saturday, May 23, an even bigger tournament is due. The Builders Exchange of Portland are having their semi annual (spring) tournament. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bowman, pro prietors of the golf course, are expecting about 160 men out for the whole day, starting at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast at the club house, and, later on, lunch there also. In the fall these men have another tournament , and they have a wonderful time. Lu Welp, who has been greens keeper at the Mt. Hood golf course for a number of years, has decided that it's time to re tire. His place will be taken from now on by Selwyn tPappy) Gaulke. Mrs. Gaulke (Boo) is already working there in the dining room. The Bowman's beautiful $25,- 000 concrete swimming and wad ing pools will be opened to the public within the week, also, after some last minute delays.
