By Only cold permanent with genuine OIL Creme base (p a te n te d ) Terry Revenaugh Every kitchen should have a set of household reference books. That’s an arbitrary opinion, but I said it and I’m glad. No housewife goes through a day without at least six small and two large crisis to cope with and sometimes a solution is needed immediately. Now, girls whose mothers are within telephoning distance, or the experienced homemaker who knows all the answers, probably don’t get too upset when junior spills ink on the new slipcovers, starch gets stuck on the electric iron or you need a super dish for unexpected guests. But for us gals with only our God-given female ingenuity to fall back on in a pinch, it’s right handy to have some authority at our fingertips to Supply us with an answer or a solution. Well, I suppose everybody has a cook book. Now to add dash toyour menus and to get some thing really snazzy whipped up for a special occasion, try add ing specialty cook books to your collection. There’s a giddy one on Gay Nineties cookery; one on New England dishes. Besides making your family happy, they’ll take meal-making out of the drudgery department into Oldest ^ndUm ost o^mpìèt?ut?e' in ClackamM County6 Plant Is your tiUe good?7' The Sandy Business a n d Professional Women’s club has been named our custodian of all clothing collected by the now inactive Mt. Hood Welfare As sociation, it was announced by BPW corresponding secretary, Miss Florence Pierce. The cloth ing, and additional garments to. be collected by the club, will be gathered and stored in the old Clackamas County bank; building. According to BPW plans the first clothing distribution will be made at Christmas. The n£xt meeting of the BPW will be Wednesday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sandy Masonic hall with Mrs. Walter Ebeling as hostess. After the regular business meeting, a soc ial hour will be held with hus bands and friends of members as guests. A quiet ceremony in Geth- seniane Lutheran church, Beattie, Washington, on Saturday, Sep tember 16, united in marriage Miss Florence V. Pierce, and Warren T. Johnston, both of Star route, Sandy. The Reverend Palmer read the double ring rites for the late afternoon wed ding. The church was lighted by candles. Thorild A. Swanson was the musician. The bride wore a gown of beige crepe and cinnamon lace with cinnamon accessories. Her corsage was talisman roses. Mrs. Norman Erickson, Sandy, was the bride’s only attendant in byown crepe wearing yellow roses. Norman Erickson was best man. A reception was held in the Roosevelt hotel, Seattle, after the ceremony for the immediate fam ❖ Hies and close friends. Mrs. Walter Ebeling, Sandy, assisted with the serving and Mrs. Nor man Erickson cut the wedding cake. For her wedding trip to Van couver and Victoria, British Col umbia, the bride wore a beige suit with Kolinsky furs and a corsage of roses. The couple will be at home at Hill Top Ranch, Star route, Sandy, after September 26. The daughter of Mrs. Eva M. Pierce, Sandy, the bride is well known • here as Imagoodegg, owner of the Hill Top Ranch chicken farm. She is d member of the Sandy Business and Prof essional Women’s Club. Mr. Johnston is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William A. John ston, Cincinnatti, Ohio. He is a graduate of Ohio State Univ ersity, majoring in agriculture. He received the American Farm er’s degree in 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri. For the past two years he has been associated with the N. B. Erickson Con struction Company, Sandy. On September 14, Mrs. Nor man Erickson was hostess at a bridal shower for Miss Pierce and Mr. Johnston. 1950 real adventuring. A real boon to the crisis-filled day of the average housewife is a household encyclopedia. There, in alphabetical order, are the answers to literally thousands of Questions you need answers to. Just browsing through, for instance, there’s a short item on burned food (under B of course). Tells you how to save part of the food, rescue the pan and get rid of the smell. If junior really has spilled ink on. the new slip covers, you quick whip out your household encyclopedia, turn to I, look under ink and with book in hand proceed to remedy the situation. A first aid handbook is an other thing important to have within reach. Most mothers have an imperative need of the knowledge of first aid even when a doctor’s handy. When your library begins to grow to bookshelf size you can add books on flower arrange ment, interior decoration, sew ing and even simple carpentry and electricity.
