Port Orford News Page 6 • May 21, 2008 By Anita Thomas For the Port Orford News Rotarian Norma Anderson presented the program at Port Orford’s Rotary Club meeting on Thursday, May 15. Norma is the Chair of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Program (RYLA). RYLA is an intensive training program for young people, ages 14 to 30, who are chosen for the award. The leadership training is conducted at a summer camp of workshops for a period of three to ten days. The workshops are conduct- ed by capable instructors under the direction of the local Rotary Club. Costs are paid for by the sponsoring Rotary Clubs. The RYLA program permits young people to debate issues of professional responsibili- ties and human relations, improve leadership and com- munication skills, learn abut businesses and institutions while having fun and making friends. RYLA provides young peo- ple ehe opportunity to refine skills and explore pertinent topics with their peers. For Rotarians, the program provides the opportunity to develop leaders, to share valu- able experience and bridge the gap between generations. Port Orford Rotary Club will sponsor three young peo- ple to the RYLA program this year. The recipients of this award are Cora Wahl. Jane Campbell and Devon Ashdown. Ashley Curry is the alternate.
