Jensen has operated his 160
acre farm for over 30 years,
becoming a district cooperator
In 1955. He was one of the
first cooperators after organ,
lzatlon of the district. During
the majority of those 30 years,
he was music director In the
Port Orford-Langlois school
system s, and later owned mu-

Lutherans Set
Christmas Service
A Christmas Eve family ser
vice will be held at the Zion
Lutheran church Dec. 24 at
9 :30 p.m.
The service will feature a
film strip entitled "Son of a
Virgin." There will be singing
of traditional Christmas carols
and choir numbers.

The Department of Revenue
has announced the transfer of
$484,137 44 to the Trea
surers of 31 counties This
money represents collections
by the Department of gross
earnings taxes from electric
cooperatives throughout the
State The tax Is levied in lieu
of ad valorem taxes on the
"transmission and distribu
tion lines" of the coopera
tives Other properties owned
by the cooperatives are in
cluded on the tax rolls and
subject to ad valorem taxes in
the same manner as all other
property
The amount collected this
year is about 12% larger than
last year
The proceeds from this tax
are distibuted 75% to the
county school fund and 25% to
the county general fund

the "go-ahead" Tuesday night
to make application for grants
from the Oregon Marine Board
for water front renovation and
recreational parking near the
dock.
Two areas are included In
the application that would pro
vide parking for between 10
and 15 commercial boats and
around 100 vehicles. The pro
posal calls for filling between
the cannery and dock for boat
storage, and east of the can
nery for recreational parking.
Total estimated cost of the
project, divided into Phase I
and Phase II, respectively, is
$54,737. The Phase I estimate
Is $15,716, and phase II Is
$39,021.

request from H.C. Kern of
Gold Beach on his proposal
to establish a barge fishing
and charter boat service out
of the port.
Kern has petitioned the Port
for permission to operate a
shuttle boat from the port to
a fishing barge anchored In
the bay, and for a deep sea
fishing charter operation. The
barge would accomodate 45
persons for bottom fishing.
A "snag” in the negotiations
occured when Kern asked for
an “ exclusive" on chartering,
if he put in the barge facil
ity, that would give him all
booking rights for other char
ter boats that might want to
operate from here.
The Port Commission was
prepared to offer a ten year
lease on the floating dock for
his operation, but did not want
to include the booking rights.
Kern said It wasn’t enough
because he needed some kind

to invest $40 or $50,000 In
the operation.
