Page 14 On the Brink of Insanity: Interactions Between the Homeless and the Non-Homeless by Leo Rhodes Love, hate, love, hate, love, hate, hate, hate Every second, minute, hour, day, month, year Hate, hate, hate, love, hate, love, hate, love It’s all a ball of confusion Bending over backwards Trying to please others While working on your own problems Some understand your plight Others have selective hearing Claiming to be experts Causing a stigma Still others just look at you And Judge you on appearance Most people don’t look, or even speak to you Making you feel ostracized One homeless person screws up All homeless people have to pay Three steps forward, 18 steps backwards Street Roots • Nov 4-10, 2016 Poetry Untitled (Freedom) by Deadpool Sitting outside listening to the rain drop, hearing train blow its horn thinking how grateful I am to have been bom Cold though I am, I am warm ‘cause my brother, my family is by my side not just here now but he always has my back I am grateful to be free to smell the rain feel its coldness on my head and to have a slab of concrete as my bed if only for the night This feels so right to be out on the street boots on my feet so as not to freeze my toes So life goes I would stay here always but alas I obey and go where I am told but yet one day I will be free to make the street my home with the sky as my roof concrete as my bed and a cardboard box on which to lay my head This is what freedom means to me Do you know our stories?
