Street Roots • August 5-11,2016 Poetry Page 14 The Drivel Awaken by Heath Cleaveland by Minnie Mariah Wilson When we speak, we convey our sense of the moment. What emerges is maybe torment, foment, or something meant to be a sum of what we see, lensless, not translucent, but transparent, like a glass blown from sand so worn that its air is just spent. Yet through that crystalline view shines the light of night or moon and stars or the reflection bright on clouds, although these be the blindest of the blind fumes, to pick one’s way through turns just fine. These winding ways that say to the live one, “None of this is just one track.” Complacency grows along with the increasing sum of bank notes; notes not unlike those of World War II aggressors, absolutist confessors, deviant transgressors, and maybe quiescent professors, aiming to speak their way into a Buddha bliss from a kiss that was ne’er so sweet as theirs. Coexisting with division is not existing at all Multi colored multitudes must stand tall Your little one’s future depends on you Your eyes can no longer refute what is true Justice for all or justice for none Actions are a must, let your voice be the gun Do not fear as we enter this fight It’s not just about the black and the white Wake up calls are ringing, do not ignore We all have the key to unlock all these doors These doors trying to hold us back and hide The truth and the lies and ugliness inside Come now, do not be afraid Let us all join in and aid We are the answer, and we will be heard Time to break free, no longer caged birds Tranquil Lateral Perseverance by Don Grubb The power of influence always pulling one apart Being one with nature is truly the best start Love is the core holding all things together May our words be soft and gentle like that of a dove’s feather We may not always see eye to eye But never forget to try another try Like a caterpillar turns into a butterfly Destiny is achieved as she spreads her wings to the sky So let us persevere likewise able to break forth Living to love, Loving to live That’s what life’s really worth. n e & n l e ’s FARMERS’ MARKET WEDNESDAYS 2-7PM ■ Notice: am Request for Proposals RFP No. 07/16-316 Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Project Based Vouchers Home Forward is requesting proposals from housing providers to partner with Home Forward and the local Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in an application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for set-aside funding available for Project Based HUD-VASH Vouchers using a Housing First approach.
