Street Roots • June 24-30, 2016 Poetry Page 14 Road Trip Street Music by Avendor by Maddy Brown-Clark There’s no nuclear war going on and the jaguars of Peru are safe and we’re driving through the California desert with cold beers between our legs There’s no insecurity about our spiritual condition and we feel we’re good enough for anyone’s love and we’re pulling over to a convenience store for cigarettes and coca colas And we’re looking forward to the future as we head off into the night because deep within the chambers of our hearts we feel everything is going to be alright The music of the streets Is both bitter and sweet Both freedom and desperation Both sadness and elation. Just another tip sir And the street musician Can get some smokes And a cold bottle of coke To wet his tongue So he can sing his way To a new home.
